Looks well presented, slightly pricey maybe, there are loads of flat shares if you broaden the search area, that at least "gets you out of parents"? I think it will be interesting to watch areas like Oxford and Cambridge as this mess unravels, they really are bubbles on bubbles now, ripe to pop.

Ummmm so you’re looking at properties to rent at cost of nearly £1,200 per month but not properties to buy at half that cost per month 🤦‍♀️ makes no sense

I think I know what the answer to this will be but... If you can't stomach making a decision over renting v buying, then rather than getting off the pot, why not learn to love the pot?

Good idea abandoning your target, that wasn't helping you one bit. I agree that taking a holiday and giving your brain a break from all this would do you the power of good. You're gonna wear yourself out with it all. Have you chatted about this with your friends/work colleagues? What did they think?

There may (probably is )other factors, but wasn't one of your big issues living with your parents that your mum kept walking into your room unannounced to use the airing cupboard? Have you actually spoken to her about this and explained that you need to have your privacy? If the airing cupboard is so essential to your mum, is there another room in the house you could move to? If so, you could also maybe add a lock to it for privacy then at least you have some breathing space and some of the urgency to get out is removed, allowing you to look properly for a place to live be that rental or buying.

You dogged a bullet there. Both neighbours would have their extractor fans at full pelt. The night life would make it noisy too

Well of course it is, it's a good size for a couple (so 2 incomes make it more affordable) , it has an outside  balcony/terrace, it's fitted out with brand spanking new kitchen and bathroom.

If the choice is to stay at home and accept your mum coming in and out of her room ( it's not yours really is it!) to use an essential airing cupboard ( does she still do your washing for you I wonder)) or to find a flat/room you may well have to lower your expectations/broaden your area etc.

That's not what I would call temporary accomodation. How does it compare to what you may be able to buy in that area? I presume that is your preferred purchase area if that is a rental you have looked into. Try before you buy type of thing?

if i can change my target from august to end of this year i can have a shot at buying again.
however , it means being at parents at 42, which is absolutely pathetic in my own mind.
especially when ive worked since i left school so have no excuses, such as being ill long term, not being able to find work etc.
the suggestion of trying to like where i am isnt an option, the furthest i could push it is moving the target to end of year.
its frustrating knowing i have the money there now but the whole transaction could take many months.
my next target after moving out is re training ( i definitely need the time and space for this ) to get a different job, so perhaps buying would make this more possible, as once settled ill be paying less and wont need to do overtime , something id probably have to do if i was renting at 1100 a month , to avoid dipping into savings.

In reality what's the difference between being 41 and 42?
