BBC News - Rent: 'We've got £1,750 a month and can't find anywhere'

To be fair £1750 in London isn't going to go far. I'm looking at £1500 a month for a 2 bed flat not in London.

I was more interested in the demand versus supply and percentage increase in rents than the headline (click bait headline story) like most of the articles these days there are sometimes some interesting facts buried.

For the OP they want to rent before buying but the article suggests approx 10% in rents this year so another reason for them not to delay.

i like the van but what do you do about a shower/bath and also washing your clothes?
Buy a slightly larger van with a shower. We use a hand rack portable washing machine when in our motor home, or as others have already said, use a launderette. If you are seriously considering a can, look for a fully winterised conversion.

other big question re van, where do you park ? i do like the idea in many ways, i am single and at a good age for it.
i dont feel a standard rental is going to come up.
ive seen a few self contained annexes/conversions on spareroom with all bills included, that could work also.

Are you using PropertyLog to follow price changes on rental and buying? Tomorrow`s decision could be a crucial sentiment changer. Can you link to some of the rental flats you have viewed?

Exactly, where would you park, and unless you are going to use the van in the future for travel what would really be the point of spending that amount of money on one? Plus the insurance etc. If you're tied to a very specific area for your work, I don't think it would make sense.

You could of course buy a decent camper van, chuck in the job and travel on your money till it runs out. You have no ties so in theory at least you could find work of some sort somewhere/anywhere else while seeing more of the country. Freedom!

thanks realisticly if i can accept missing the arbitrary target i created then buying will be best long term.
renting would be ok if the market wasnt so bad at the moment.
