  • You can switch a basic account. Have you opened a lloyds account yet? Is that a silver account?

I clicked on switch tab and it took me to a page where it told me to put in my sc, acc number, last 5 digits of my Halifax bank and thats it

It didn't tell me what product I wanted

    Then it finished

I did also try using the link and it said it the end there is a problem with our systems
You're doing this in the wrong order, if I understand what you're trying to do.

You don't start with the switch and expect to be asked what product.

You start with the product - i.e. you apply for and get the upgraded account (which you need for the switch bonus). Have you done this?  If not stop trying to switch and do this first.

After that you apply to switch to it.

Have you read and understood the advice given on page 1 of this thread?  Which said:

To be clear, you need to do a few things:

    1) Upgrade your Lloyds basic account to one of the eligible Lloyds currents accounts (Silver/Platinum). Be aware these accounts have a substantial monthly fee. Also keep in mind that depending on the reason why you hold a basic current account, Lloyds may not let you upgrade. If you can't upgrade, then any switch WILL NOT result in being paid the £200 incentive.

    2) Once you have upgraded, you then need to switch in an external account using the Current Account Switch Service (CASS). Your replies suggest you are unfamiliar with how it works, so I'd suggest familiarising yourself: https://www.currentaccountswitch.co.uk/

This will close your Halifax current account, but your other financial products will remain unchanged. Halifaxay restrict access, or close them if they require you to concurrently hold a current account - you'd need to separately check the terms of the savings account(s) you hold.

    3) Optional, but highly recommended - once paid the incentive, downgrade your Lloyds account to a fee-free Classic current account.

That advice has been repeated several times in the thread now

Thanks, however I did wish for the £200 incentive.

I went in and they say I'm not eligible because I hold a basic account

    Unless I close this account

I tried to upgrade online however it doesn't tell me to submit my Halifax details, just choose my product and complete application

However all my DD, wages go into my Halifax
  • Various others have already listed what to do in this thread several times so I am not really adding much. As you mentioned that you have existing savings in Halifax, I would do this in this particular order paying attention to the important bits in bold:

    1. [Halifax] Create another Halifax current account. This will ensure your Halifax savings are still easily accessible in future after the switch.

    2. [Lloyds] Upgrade your existing Lloyds classic to Silver or above.

    3. [Lloyds] Switch into the now upgraded Lloyds with either your original Halifax account (this will pull your DDs and wages etc into the newly upgraded Lloyds), or just switch the new Halifax account you created into the Lloyds.

    4. Wait a week or so for the Lloyds bonus to be paid and the switch to complete.

    5. One of your Halifax current accounts will now be automatically closed, but because you created a spare Halifax account in step 1 you will still be able to log in to Halifax and access your existing savings using your remaining Halifax account.

    6. [Lloyds] Downgrade Lloyds to classic if you decide you don't need the club benefits/insurance products - otherwise you will pay a monthly fee.

    Hope this is clear enough

Upgrading your Lloyds account is a completely different thing to switching in your Halifax!

So it won't ask for your Halifax info as that's not part of the upgrade.  That's the switch bit - it's something you do afterwards, on another occasion.

You seem to be unwilling or unable to understand this. I'm giving up on trying to get this understood!

However the staff said holding a lloyds basic account despite all my DD, wages in Halifax I cannot get the incentive, I can switch, however it is because I have the basic account in Lloyds.

Ill try again with the link provided before

I'm sorry however I will re read.

  • The Lloyd's switch offer ends on 7th March. At least then the answers will be even simpler.

Remember that first of all you need to either upgrade your existing Lloyds account to a Silver account or apply to open a new Silver Account. Otherwise if you switch your Halifax account into your Basic Lloyds account, you will NOT qualify for the £200.
Only once you have a Silver account you can start the switch process.
