This looks a good option at the moment. For those on this tariff how are you monitoring it to check it's still worthwhile? Third party site, or do you get enough info from your Octopus account?
I use this site to see what today's price is and to see how it's been changing.

I look at that when I first wake up. It's handy to see all the figures for the month, on one page.

Half the country would be impressed with the Tracker rates through January if they saw it with the only problem being actually signing up with Octopus then getting onto Tracker.

I normally just open my mobile Octopus app to see today's rate..but mysmartenergy.uk is the place to go to see the full month.

I changed to the gas tracker recently without problem.
The rate on mysmartenergy.co.uk was incorrect for my region on one day and the standing charge is much higher than the charge on Octopus. I rely on the Octopus app for accurate data.

Is this normal that the Tracker rates are not reflected in the smart meter? I just checked Bright and it shows SVR rate (gas tracker if that makes a difference)
Gas: warm air central heating, instant water heater, Octopus tracker
Electricity: 3kw south facing solar array, EV, Octopus intelligent

Yes, smart meters and IHDs don’t reflect the daily Tracker price.

I calculate my electricity UR using Nordpool's updates for wholesale DA; gas is taken from Octopus' 'Our Tariffs' page, or from my online account (if I need to access it).

I keep a spreadsheet of the daily URs, first populated with the UR caps - hopefully, I can see the average daily unit rate for the month falling as the actual daily rates are put in, and I can see both the running average, and the 'worst case scenario' daily average for the month, as the days progress.

I can then calculate 2 different 'bills' each month (as I have non-smart meters):
Bill cost using the actual average daily rate applied to the total usage
    Bill cost for SVT
Both can then be compared to the actual bill (where Octopus apportion daily usage, then apply this to each day's actual UR) - the difference between the average daily UR bill and Octopus' bill is usually a matter of pence, but, in December (my most expensive monthly bill to date - Scotland had it coldest December since 2010), the latter was £10 cheaper.

Tracker v2 has been very good since the introduction of EPG, thanks to (surprisingly, and very much relatively speaking ) 'low' wholesale prices, and corresponding URs:
    October 2022 - 44% saving
    November 2022 - 40.5% saving
    December 2022 - 14.9% saving
January 2023 has so far seen URs for both fuel types below EPG every day, and the worst case scenario for the month is already comfortably below that of December, though not as low as October and November.

Thanks, we're already with Octopus and have just got our smart meter so should be good to go.
  • After a quick call to Octopus this morning, was put straight onto the Gas Tracker   - so for today my gas UR will be 6.64p ( Yorkshire area)
The tariff is already showing on the app for my account
