Have hit a bit of a sticking point with my switch. I was going to switch to the Lloyds Silver account and then downgrade straightaway. I already have a travel insurance policy and breakdown cover with other providers, so when I get to the question of do I have these then my answer is 'yes'. Despite them saying that they will only make a recommendation about whether this is or isn't the right account (i.e. won't tell me what to do), they then tell me that I can't open the account because I won't make use of the benefits. End of account opening process!

Not much point in me trying to persuade my mum to apply - outside the age range for the travel insurance, no car, borrows one of my old Nokia phones about 5 days a year.
When I applied it told me that I was too old for the Travel Insurance but still let me open the account minus this cover. No suggestion that the fee might be reduced.

My Lloyds switch completed a few days ago and I immediately transferred the £200 incentive away to my main current account. I closed the silver account that I switched to on the same day as receiving the incentive. All done before the month's end so no fee to pay which is great

I tried to switch my Nationwide account to the Silver Lloyd’s account, but it said ‘This account can’t be switched at this time’. Any ideas why? I’m sure I didn’t see anything in the T&Cs about an exclusion for Nationwide…
You need to alter the switch completion date to the next day.
I'm trying to do this and it just says it can't switch this bank at this time. tried 2 banks, and the third time I changed the date the the next Monday available (13th Feb.)
it says you may be able to do the switch later, has anybody done that?

You can switch to Lloyds after you open an account as an "existing customer" using the switch form at the bottom of the page here, "Switch to an existing account"https://www.lloydsbank.com/current-accounts/switch.html

As long as the switch starts within the eligible offer period it doesn't matter how long after account opening it is
  • I already have Nationwide Flexplus as my main bank account so don't want to switch from this.
Looking at replies on this thread so far, are people successfully getting this done by opening a basic account elsewhere and switching from that?

The type of account you switch from is irrelevent for offer validity, other than it must have the 'Current Account Switch Guarantee' which almost all current accounts do nowadays; Lloyds will not care if it was a packaged account, premier account or basic account, so long as the account you switch to is one of their eligible Silver or Platinum offerings.

You don't have to cancel your Nationwide Flexplus benefits in order to (briefly) have overlapping cover elsewhere. I'd simply downgrade to Classic or Club Lloyds when the switch was done and dusted, ideally avoiding the start of the month so no fee would be payable.

Yes. It really is quite straight forward. The whole process is handled quickly and efficiently by the banks.

As you say, no need to switch your main account, just open another account to use for the switch.

I opened a classic Lloyds account to switch to Nationwide, and have now switched that to Santander.

The only thing is to make sure you comply with the terms/conditions of the offer, i.e setting up the required direct debits, and any funding requirements for the new account, logging on to online banking within the timeframe specified.

this worked. I just tried to "open & switch" for a 3rd and final time, it said ‘This account can’t be switched at this time’ so I just continued and opened the account
as soon as it was open it showed me my new acc details, and also had a link to "switch now" which I tried, but it had exactly the same result
‘This account can’t be switched at this time’
then I went to the offer main page
https://www.lloydsbank.com/current-accounts/switch.html and started to switch to an existing account, I cant say for sure it's worked but it said the forms been submitted at least

Is the change account section not currently working for anyone else? I’d like to ‘upgrade’ my club silver before month end now that my switch completed this morning, but I’m getting an apologetic message instead.
