Thanks daisy_1571 DG is still not happy to come so she will probably stay at home. I am not thrilled either it is also in work time but I get to be part of the family so it is important to be there to support for a change.
The plan was to get up early and work before I have to leave to go to my sister but a stupid power cut had other ideas. The smoke detector went off and then it took 3 goes of it going off before I figured out it had a battery as well as mains. I recon it took at least an hour to get back to sleep and the power only came back on at 5am. Bits have come off the alarm but hopefully be able to put it back up with a new battery.
Posted on a site where you ask for people to do jobs for you and quoted £110 and £160 to fit the cat flap in the front door. The cheap one is from the guy who was here before to do the lights and he did not really do what I wanted so not having him back. I have also asked on the local FB group and one reply so far what a shame to cut a hole in such a nice door. Well yes but the others are glass doh.
Managed to get a Danish esim so can stop using my sisters phone. It is £6 a month so quite cheap. I also managed to get everything sorted to send the keys to the dealer. They are picking it up tomorrow.
Booked free golf lesson Dg is upset again about her golf lol. Also managed to set up the new printer so that was good. Do need a tip run for dead printer and all the grass. Still no curtains up I am getting really desperate now. Started taking the glue pads off the photo squares ready to go up in the bedroom so that will be nice when it goes up.
Got paid today but big £7K CC bill to pay for the move so that will be gone. Did dawn on me that I only have 2 more left now. I should be able to leave when I want to because I have 12 days leave left still but we shall see.

DG did come to my sisters but was not happy about it. She is still in pain with her back so that does not help. It was an ok afternoon glad to be part of the family and support my sister and co with it. It all went peaceful at home the vet was brilliant and the lovely dog was buried under a tree. We then had lunch together before we had to go as it was actually a work day.
Still got a million things on the to do list and DG just isnt up for doing much so it is slow progress. We are going for a golf lesson later but the tip shuts at 5pm so not sure if we will make it. We also need to pick up the bit for the cat flap and do a proper shop. Maybe after golf.

Seriously need to start a to do list again but things are moving forward. I am going with the expensive guy to fit the cat flap as we really need it now. He can also hang up the light in one of the bedrooms and maybe even taken down the garage door for DG. At least it moves the pool bar along.
The free lesson was great it was just us two so he actually gave us a private lesson and I fixed and issue and so did FG so well worth it we usually pay £90 for one and had to drive to London for it back in the UK.
We have signed up for a free gym session not sure it is the right gym for us but worth a try. We usually like Les Mills but if we do not go it is expensive so need to make sure.
I have a few meetings today and then that is it end of the week first 4 day week I am really liking this.
To do list
Cat flap - book handyman in to do job
Check if he can fit ceiling light and take down garage door.
Pack car with stuff for tip
Plans for Friday
Gym session
Tip run
Buy holder for phone for car at TH
Food shop
Hang up 2 sets of curtains
Work on website mistakes
Start uploading documents to cloud
Longer term to do list
Pack away garden furniture
Buy strimmer
Look for double sided tape for photos
Hang photos in bedroom
Source 2 bed side tables
Source unit for coffee station

Just come back from local town we are now members of a gym. £64 for both of us for 2 months no ties and it is called Loop where you work on machines until it beeps. It is not state of the art like our old one but friendly and it will do for 2 months until we get ourselves sorted. They do do classes so trying on on Thursday.
Did a load of shopping which was all needed, battery for fire alarm all working again now hard to turn off but at least doing its job. Also got a holder for my phone in the car that does not collapse every 5 min. Then got double sided gel strips to glue on our photos so that can now be done in the bedroom which is fab. We also got some solar fairy lights at half price as the box has been opened. They are sadly solar but lets see how we get on with them.
Then we went to the shops and afterwards got two hotdogs for £3.54 which were so so good. That is cheap to eat out in your supermarket for sure.
We looked for bedside cabinets for the spare room and got some 1/2 price we really liked. When I got home I saw they came with a matching wall panel which will really liven up that room so ordered that. Also manged to download mobilepay which everyone uses here so that was a relief.
We did also look at curtain rails but they were cheap and nasty so saw some online and they black out the lights more so ordered them for our room and the lounge. The ones i bought can be used in the spare room which still has not got curtains.
Handyman is here so I best help him.

Great fun at the golf club Saturday met some lovely people and may have found a way for DG to learn Danish so that is all good.
Sunday we went to the larger town shopping but it was a bit of a disaster I mislaid my bag and I also nearly crashed the car. Should have stayed at home but got a light some light blubs some paint samples and other bits. Also did a big shop in the cheaper but nice supermarket. I think we are going sage green on the back wall of the bedroom but will see once we get the curtains up.
I should actually have stayed working in the garden instead that would have been more productive but still all done and no real harm.
Found a place to buy a new gas strut but as always loads of postage over here which is so annoying. However once we get them off they are easy to fit and we can then have a microwave in the kitchen.
To do list is coming along but very slowly.

Thanks daisy_1571 I don't always feel we are making progress but having a list does at least make it feel like there is progress.
Such a lazy evening no gym no golf no progress on list just chill time. We have sorted a private tutor out for DG to learn Danish. Not sure how much it is going to cost but I think it will be worth it to get her started and interested. I think once she is registered here she will have access to free lessons but we shall see. They do have a bad reputation as they are group ones and some immigrants are "forced" to take them in order to stay in the country.
I paid my property tax yesterday it was late by 10 days as the letter was sent to UK and I did not get an electronic copy. I therefore messaged the tax office and asked how I pay the interest so it does not rack up. I also asked if I was ok to carry on not being registered just checking and saying I am not working in this country. I will get a reply in 10 days and I can also pay £50 to get a binding answer so it is confirmed the advice they have given is correct. Strange system to pay for binding answer but might be worth it just in case. We shall see I think I am doing everything correctly.
Lawn was done yesterday and is looking nicer now. I really need an edge strimmer just cannot find what I want. Originally I wanted the Bosh so I can use the two batteries I already have but then they did not get very good reviews. I have paid for the equivalent Danish Which online to get the reviews by the way. I then thought I would like a set where one handle fits all so looked at the Stihl but then I am not sure so really do not know. I also need a lawnmover but it depends on when we get the second plot of land which I must email him about. Ideally I want to buy in 2026.
I also must text the handyman as the curtain poles arrives today so those two can be fitted and if he can cut down the Uk one that can go in the bedroom.
Anyway let's get on with some work instead of looking at shopping.
Today
Gym after work
Text handyman once curtain rails arrives
Call local electrician - SENT HIM A Message - might have to call as well as those forms do not always work
Garden jobs:
Pack away garden furniture
Strim edges
Make new raised bed out the front where there is "wild" flowers now
Cut down flower heads
Mulch (get freebie compost from tip). (I miss my estate)
Shopping
Source unit for coffee station (Thursday when the shop is open again) we can go after gym

As you get to know people I'm sure the language becomes easier to learn as she has you to practice with too. I think that is so much better than the odd lesson. (I base this on a friend who moved to France with her husband, she was French her children from a previous marriage bilingual - her husband got a job on a building site and learnt to speak with the men on site, he never did speak at home saying he was not good enough but the men were kind and taught him well - they returned to England eventually but he has very passable French after no lessons at all)Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!1 -
Morning Watty you are quite right. The best way to learn is to immerse yourself in the country and just speak it. If DG was working with Danes and having to speak to them like your friend that could well have worked but she is working with English clients and only speaks English during the day. Problem is also that danes are happy to switch to English as soon as they realise she does not speak Danish. I think the other issue is that she has never learnt another language and never been interested in learning one. I think once you have learnt one it is easier to learn a second. Also she is really poor at English grammar which does not help.
We had the quote from the Handyman he wants £410 for 4 curtain rails, fit a light and remove the mechanism for the garage door. I agreed as we just do not have the time to put everything up and we can actually earn more money doing the self employed business work. Emailed the local electrician but not heard back I might have to call him instead as it is such a small job.
I have also received a flurry of interest which is really novel and nice. I know I might end up paying tax on them but for now nice as it is doing something while not invested.
£192 in Monzo savings account
£35 in HSBC savings account
£11 in Santa (only moved a week ago)
£95 Cash ISA Monzo
£136 Cash ISA
Tesco is an annual payment so nothing right now. Also there is Premium Bonds tomorrow and we have been in for a month so should count. Very exciting hoping for a nice win there.
Finally found a strimmer I liked well. Actually it was not one of the rated ones but it is a Danish company that makes lots of garden tools. I got an electric mover, a strimmer with a plastic blade instead of string (I hate the string system) a bin for the garden (for plastic bags) a set secateurs, a lopper for branches, a tool to remove weeds and a scraper for the lawn mover all of that for £400. I think that is a bargain and it has great write up. You do have to pay delivery of £20 which is outrageous but that is what it is here no choice.
The curtain rails sadly did not arrive yesterday but should arrive today. I really hope they do but they are being delivered by the equivalent of Royal Mail which are the ones stopping letters from next year. I am worried they wont be strong enough for the heavy curtains but it did not say anything about the weight they could take so lets wait and see. Not sure what I do if they cannot hold the curtains I would have to swap things around.
My mum called yesterday she is going to a conference so will come to us first and stay from Thursday to Saturday so que having to rush out and get some food in for dinners and breakfast etc. It is lovely to have her here and this will be the first time she is staying.
I am going to put a couple of pictures up so you can see. Also I got an email from the Danish tax office they accept I have limited tax liability in Denmark until I move so all is good. Phew.
