We were asleep well before midnight as well, although the fireworks here did wake me up, but not DH. Luckily they didn't go on for long, but then I couldn't go back to sleep for ages, so consequently woke up late this morning and felt tired. I can't for the life of me work out what day it is, seems like a Sunday...LOL. Dh has to go to work tomorrow and Saturday morning. Just think this time next year you will be retired and can enjoy not having to go back after a bank holiday. It really is a great feeling.Making the debt go down and savings go up

Morning all, happy Friday.
Well I am officially mortgage free 🎉😁Unknown to me the direct debit went out yesterday so officially mortgage free since yesterday. Finally!! It was due to finish April 2027 so by overpaying I've shaved just over a year off. Not shed loads like some people on here have done but I was late to the party with overpayments and it's thanks to other MSE members for giving me the inspiration to do this.
In other financial news the Principality Christmas Saver 2025 has matured and proceeds have hit the current account. I need to decide where that's going, I think half to the emergency funds pot and half to my retirement but might keep a bit back as Mr SA desperately needs a new armchair.
Also cc balance cleared and an oddment of £8.08 sent to the Christmas pot.
Work wise I'm WFH today, don't normally on a Friday but if it's as quiet as it was on Wednesday I'd rather sit at home staring at a blank computer screen than in the office. So far it's very quiet but then it's also quite early.
Woken up by the sounds of a cat making heaving noises. I haven't found anything so hopefully they didn't throw up. However the dog got up and instead of coming downstairs pooped in my office and peed on the hall carpet; I've just cleaned that carpet 😞 Since she had the vestibular disease incident she's been scared of coming down the stairs on her own and needs coaxing so she must've been desperate. Mr SA was (and still is) fast off so totally oblivious to the chaos.
Today's exercise plan is the 10 minutes yoga challenge, dog walking later, Zumba this afternoon (new live class) and a short strength training session.
Tonight's dinner will involve parsnips, swede, butternut squash, carrots and sprouts. I might air fry them and have them with a portion of nut roast from freezer stocks. January HAS to be all about using up freezer/cupboard stocks.

Congratulations on the mortgage. It was this time last year that we got ours paid off. Think you deserve some prosecco tonight to celebrate. XMaking the debt go down and savings go up

Fantastic news on the mortgage. It makes such a difference to savings potential as well as security.

I can't get my hands on any pension until next January so I need to find out what to do to start claiming it from that date. I need to look at the state pension and how long it takes to come through. If I don't retire at the end of the year it will be some time early in 2027. I thought about staying until the summer but I've really had enough now so the sooner I can go the better.Sunshine_girl2 said:Great news on the mortgage well done. When are you planning to retire ?
