Of course SA can put up the shelves but it sounds like Mr SA is on a mission.

Years ago, my mum knocked a nail in the wall of her kitchen to hang a picture. She realised later that she had no electricity so called the local electrician who couldn't work out why until he was in the kitchen drinking a cup of tea (luckily, mum had gas too). He spotted the picture & asked mum when she had put it there. Problem solved, she'd only hammered the nail through an electric cable! At least she lived to tell the tale. Tell Mr SA to be careful!

@kayannie, scary! It's a good job your mum was hospitable, otherwise who knows what the cost could have been in terms of safety and investigations!

My mum was so hospitable that I swore blind she'd be taking tea & cakes out to someone digging up the road outside her house!

It's a nice thing to do. I offer a cuppa to any workmen doing work for us, but I'm not organised enough to provide home baking! I've known the window cleaner for years so he and I sometimes stop to chat while he has his tea (white, no sugar).

Oh and the shelves haven’t been put up yet. That’s another job for tomorrow - I will be supervising and ensure a spirit level is used. They’re only little shelves so not too bad and no wires or pipes in the walls.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
  • Make sure to do your spirit level training beforehand, who knows what disasters might occur with a woman using one
  • Maybe you could put up the shelves and then thank Mr. SA for doing such a good job of putting them up. Confuse him a bit or make him think he actually did it.
