I do think that as SA gets older (sorry to remind you) and retirement is looming plans need to be put in place to keep Mr SA safe and give SA some time to herself. No he wont like it but he will get used to it in time. SA sorry to talk about you in the third person but you have expressed fears for being tied in your well deserved retirement and planning now and at least starting to get MR SA used to the idea that you need it even if he doesnt. Are you in touch with headway and is there a branch in your area. They may be able to give advice and support to instigate changes that will become necessary as you both get older.I just had avery quick look at there website and the first thing that came up was dont expect carers to ask for help which I think says it all. My apologies if I have overstepped the mark.

I hope you get a decent nights sleep SA .,Life is an adventure, never stop exploring.4

Thank you all and no @ladyholly you haven’t overstepped the mark. I am familiar with Headway they were a great help when he first came out of hospital 10 years ago.In my opinion if you don’t shout up you get forgotten about as a carer. I used to have regular carers assessments but haven’t had one since before COVID. The excuse is always lack of funds or some places are still using COVID as an excuse like our GP surgery.I got no help at all both times I broke my leg despite saying I was a carer. You’re just expected to get on with it.Aside from that, he’s had another fall but luckily fell on the outdoor patio table which broke his fall. He slept all afternoon lucky him. I’m absolutely shattered and will be off to bed shortly for hopefully a decent night’s sleep 🤞
Tomorrow I’m off to my friend’s for the afternoon so he’ll have to behave himself as DD will be in charge and she’s more ruthless than me.Thank you all for your kind comments it’s very much appreciated ❤️I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)9 -

Forgot to say I had to nip out to the local shops and something drew me into the YMCA shop. They were selling books 10 for £1 and had 10 books I wanted, some brand new and very recent - what a bargain. The things that help me cope are: reading books, holidays, listening to music, meeting up with my friends, my exercise classes, my pets, cookbooks and trying new recipes, having my nails done and dare I say it - work. Oh and coffee, gin and wine 😆I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)8

What a tough time you are having. I hope you have an uninterrupted night's sleep.
I don't know what to suggest about getting some outside help for MrSA that will provide some respite for you. My dad was so resistant to having a daily carer. We started with a one hour a week arrangement on the basis that he needed his catheter bag changed each week and none of us could/would do it. He soon became comfortable with that arrangement because he liked the carer and to be honest he liked being the focus of attention.Interesting that your DD is more ruthless than you - she's a good option for an afternoon's supervisory duties.5 -
He used to have a full time carer who took him out and helped him with odd jobs in the garden and house. He suddenly decided he didn’t need one anymore and of course the council were more than happy to no longer be funding it. Interestingly this carer decided caring wasn’t a profession for him after looking after Mr SA 😬 Shame I can’t decide the same 🤣I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)7

Happy Friday.I had an undisturbed night’s sleep 🥳
Just having my breakfast then I shall get ready to go into town to catch the bus to my friend’s house who lives in a neighbouring county. I want to have a quick look around the shops and have a coffee first. The weather looks great so we’ll be able to sit in her garden.Mr SA will be read the riot act before I set out. DD is keeping an eye on him so he’s not on his own. Not that he takes any notice of anyone! The increase in falls coincide with good weather when he starts shuffling up and down the garden.I feel a bit guilty for going out but I really need some time for myself.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)6
