I've just realised that it's 22 years today until I get my state pension (assuming nothing changes).  I do not plan on working that long!

  • Hi @jwil. Sounds like you have had a really productive week.  I am definitely a fan of the small positive things aspect and it's amazing what can be achieved with the small consistent actions - your PADs are going well for January considering we are only on the 6th.
My OH gets his state pension later this year and has already been retired for over 10 years - looking forward to that extra money especially as I am still working and intend to be doing so for 3-5 more years.  I do like my job as well, which always helps!

Thank you, but it's not my birthday bizarrely!  I queried it a few years ago.  Apparently I'm in the transition period when the retirement age moves from 67 to 68 so I'll get my pension a few weeks before I turn 68.  Flipping annoying really!

My DH always says he has no plans to retire because he'd find it boring.  I'm the opposite and want to go as soon as I can!  It will be interesting to see if he changes his mind if I do go early.

It was my late husbands dream to give up his corporate pressured job and work in B and Q when he retired.

There's a lot to be said for doing something that interests you, so I totally understand your husband's dream.  I like my job overall, but there's a certain amount of hassle with it and I can't see me being able to go part time without winding up trying to do a full time job in the shorter hours.  Once I get to my planned retirement age, I will more than likely try and find something part time that interests me.  DH might have the opportunity to do the same.  It's mostly about having the choice and freedom to choose, rather than being stuck in a job because we need the money.
