Giving Up/Cutting Down Alcohol Thread part 18

Hello 👋
How lovely that this thread is still going! Nearly 16 years I think. I still see plenty of names I recognize. I hope you are all well?!
I left this thread when Covid hit in early 2020. Too much going on. In the end we had quite a good Covid - DH got to have a complete rest from business travel, we spent a wonderful 4 months living with DS2 before he moved in with his gf. We had big family walks and we got very close. We caught Covid in 2022 and having had numerous vaccines by then we were completely fine.
Sadly, in early 2021 my sister in laws breast cancer came back and she died in autumn last year. Beyond sad as she was only 58 and my brother and his family are bereft. So you can imagine that the last few years from 2021 and early this have been at times very sad and stressful- not all of it of course, life being life - so even though I tried to keep a lid on it and to some extent succeeded - my units were too high. I realized this was having a dramatic impact on my sleep… I was unable to go to sleep without a drink!! So I cut out all social drinking and then gradually reduced my bed time drinking to a couple of units and eventually managed some AFDs, with good sleep. Sleep is now back to normal.I had some blood tests done a week ago to confront any health damage the last couple of years might have done. It hasn’t been all bad my diet has been excellent and I walked miles during Covid. I have a BMI well below the recommended 25. But my cholesterol has come back raised.. 6 … it should be 5 or less. So at 62 I’ve joined a gym (part of the trouble is the rain has been awful and I can’t get out walking) which I’m actually loving. I’ve got my units down to 8 in the last 7 days. So hopefully I have a plan to a better cholesterol reading in 3 months time.Oh, and me and DH are retired and now pensioners!! We also now support Brentford and Arsenal women as well as Arsenal men! Oh and DS2 is getting married next year!I hope I can join this thread again?! And in anticipation of a yes! 5/16 please Cathybird. What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.5 -
11/20 for me today please.
Welcome to the returning members, you'll always find support here!
I'm finding it easy to not have a "glass" of wine at dinner, even when DH does. If I have any, I can't resist carrying on.What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?4 -
Great to see you posting again shaggydoo and @pollyanna24. It's good to hear from you and brilliant that you'll be joining the thread again @shaggydoo.
