I am buying a new car so will be withdrawing the money saved on this challenge as I am buying it in cash.  I am pleased I saved it as it means no need for financing but I will need to then start rebuilding savings next year.

We are considering cars at the moment. Mine is a 4WD SUV we use for long trips (Italy, Scotland twice a year) and remains comfortable and reliable at almost ten years old. It's a diesel and gets used on the farm where we keep bees (hence the 4wd). The other is a petrol hatchback that is c2007 and I think we should trade it in for an EV. It only gets used locally (up to 150 mile radius), predominantly by DH and is a tip inside. He suggested we sell them both, get a local EV and rent a bigger one when we go away. Sell my car? I have loved that car!
    Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Mine is a 10 year old diesel crossover car and I love it but sadly it is not ULEZ compliant in spite of zero car tax and an eco setting which means low fuel consumption. I realise ULEZ is to do with emissions but I go up to London a fair bit to visit my mum and my eldest daughter lives in Bristol which also has ULEZ so sadly it has to go. We are considering giving it to my youngest DD who got rid of their second car during COVID as they both worked from home. Now she works in a school so uses her car leaving my son in law stranded if he needs to go out for work. They have been borrowing mine when I can use DHs but long term that isn’t sustainable. No ULEZ in Cornwall yet.

My new one is a 1 year old hybrid of the same car and lovely to drive. They don’t come up often so when I took my car in for an MOT and service yesterday to our local garage he alerted me to the hybrid as he knew that was my plan for my next car. Too good a bargain to pass up with only 3000 miles on the clock. The previous owner bought from new then decided he wanted heated seats so traded in for another brand new car but next model up! We do long distances so not keen on full EV yet.

Yes, that is the same as our deliberations. I do like the reliability but not sure. I definitely favour a hybrid SUV/4WD option.

    • Hi everyone, sorry I fell off the thread again but been plugging away slowly in the background, just caught up with the thread now.  Thanks to @enthusiasticsaver and @Suffolk_lass for picking up the spreadsheet updating baton.

      My totals are:
      Jan: 268
      Feb: 198.74
      March: 207.08
      April: 167.09
      May: 214.98
      June: 258.69
      July: 434
      Aug: 273.09
      Sept: 248.58
      Oct 107.58
I make that £2,377.83 and my target was £3k

It's been a tight month, in more ways than one, as I've not been well and gained some weight and had to buy a few new clothes to tide me over.  Think my £3k target might be out of reach now as November and December tend to be months with more un-budgeted spending than the rest of the year and a time of year when my self control is at it's lowest, but I'll get as close to it as I can.

Hope everyone is well and Storm Babet did not cause any of you harm.
