So ... something else that I've been thinking about for a while ... I've wanted a dog for ages but can't have one as I work full-time. I plan to get one when I retire but I have another 17 years of work to get through first. Anyhow, I've thought about getting a cat but haven't, mainly due to next door having one and it adopting my garden. They moved about a month ago so I have revisited the idea. This week I have been looking at various rescue websites and have sent a couple of applications. This morning I had a call from one of them and it looks like I may be getting a kitten
I am going to see her tomorrow, I have sent them my id and photos of my home (they don't do in person home checks since covid, you need to send photos instead). So tomorrow I go and meet her, take a blanket with me, then fingers crossed we arrange a collection date
I am super excited! She is a black kitten, approx. 6months old, she only has one eye and is super-cute. Now i am going to make a cup of tea then mooch on Pets at Home website and try to decide on a name (they have called her an awful old lady name that doesn't suit any cat whatsoever!) x

Aaaw how lovely! My mum had a one eyed black cat when I was a bit younger and still at home. We had him from a kitten and he was lush😺I really need to sort out a new signature!1

How exciting. A few years ago I had a lovely black kitten he had been found in a dustbin his tail had been chopped off, I called him Bostik because from the moment I got him he stuck to me. Looking forward to hearing all about her x1

I sent my home photos off and they replied saying all good except I either need to install a cat flap or ladders going to/from the windows in the conservatory ... having googled I can either have a cat flap put in the double glazed french doors (£££!!) or in the upvc front door, or I can buy a couple of wooden step sets and attach to the fence and the wall indoors. The cat flap would be less intrusive but not overkeen on it being in the front door although that would make more sense than the glass doors. Hmm ... They also said my id didn't match the address on my application form which makes no sense as I've lived here for 6+ years so don't have any other address that I may have entered by mistake? Waiting to hear from them re that bit as I'm confused
They've said I can still go and see her tomorrow but can't arrange a collection date until the cat flap / ladders are sorted. I've put a thing on checkatrade for quotes for a cat flap, if I don't get any replies tonight I'll order the ladders

Oooh exciting times ahead.
Can't wait to see pictrures.
Don't understand the ladder thing.
I used to have a cat flap in the panel beside the front door.

Exiting about a little kitty congrats. A cat flap is a must saves litter trays (mine refuse to use them) and also means you can leave them overnight etc. I don’t get the ladders either but if you go for a flap consider one that reads the micro chip avoids lots of other kitties getting in.Hope the ID gets sorted.Save £12k in 25 No 49

I have 2 cats and don’t have a cat flap and they manage perfectly well. Although I do spend a lot of time opening and closing the door for them. I don’t understand the ladder thing either.Anyway exciting news, hope it comes off 😻I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)1

I've had a quote for a cat flap in the french doors ... £300 and that's for fitting, doesn't include the actual cat flap! So it will have to be the ladders ... so basically my conservatory has small windows all around the top. I have an Ikea kallax unit that is near the window that is just above the windowsill height, so from there to the window is approx 1 metre. Having spent all evening googling I think my options are either to get a cat tower thing that will be the same height as the window (one of those things that has various platforms for them to climb on), or a set of stairs. Then once it's out of the window I would probably get a plank of wood and prop it up as a ramp. I showed it to a friend who has several cats and she laughed - she said without a doubt the cat will jump on the back of the chair (higher than the Kallax unit), then straight out the window and jump onto the fence. I know she's right, all seems quite bonkersMortgage Total: £51,549 / £75,000
