This morning I have been and done the food shopping - I did spend more than planned although not that much of it was on food :( I spent £85 but that included a new double fitted sheet for my bed, I have two but one is ripped. I have to get the deep ones as my mattress is really thick, not many places stock them. That was 312, then a dress that was reduced from £25 to 12.50, I wanted a new lipsyl, they were £2.50 each but they had 4 in a tin for £5, so I got that and will put one in ds stocking, then I can have one for home, one for my bag and one for work. I also got a huge pack of toilet rolls as both toilets were on the last one, (£8). So not much actual food but hopefully that will mean I'll continue to use up freezer stuff. I had ham, egg and chips for lunch, using chips from the freezer.

The rest of today will be spent mooching about, I do want to bleed the radiators - I haven't done this before and was going to go to B&Q to buy a key, but having googled it I realised that the multikey that I use to open the gas meter also does the radiators, so a £ or two saved there :)

Well, the radiators have been bled - ashamed to admit it's the first time I've ever done it, not exactly tricky is it?!  :s anyway, they're done, my bed has been remade and I've swapped the duvet over. I have a 4.5 tog and a 10.5 tog and they can be clipped together to make a 15 tog. Anyway, 4.5 tog has gone away, summer is officially over. 10.5 tog is back on. If it gets really cold i'll clip them together but that rarely happens as I get too hot.

I then ventured into ds room ... oh my word. I rarely do it as I leave him to it but his room stinks. I don't know if it's the old pizza boxes, the smelly socks or what, but all the washing is out (first load is in the machine), all the plates/cups are in the dishwasher, a bin bag has been filled and now it needs a damn good clean. Hmm, I seem to have found some cleaning motivation though, not premier league game until 4:30 today so I've got some time to get on with some jobs :)

I must admit since we had the new central heating and boiler fitted 5 years ago I haven’t bled the radiators 😬 Used to have to do this a lot with the old radiators or basically they didn’t work.

I still have my adult DD living with me and I never venture into her room 😱

    Enjoy your half term off.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)

I'm trying to see now how long I can go without switching the heating on. I have the windows and doors open today, the weather is actually lovely despite the forecasts saying otherwise.

Hmmph ... just gone to have a nice relaxing bath and there's no hot water. Seems bleeding radiators and combi boilers can be a problem ... will need ds to sort the pressure on the boiler when he gets home tonight. The boiler is in the loft and I hate ladders so will have to wait :(

  • I really enjoy reading your diary. I like the detail and the homely feel to it. Great that you are blessed with a loving son.
I assume from your signature that you are debt free and making further plans. How are the finances going?
    Best wishes.

Thanks Baron, yep I am debt free but as a single income household I am always wary of being complacent so like to keep my diary going here :)
