  • It's not the black, I've already got a black one, but I want another for the other room, and I was thinking I can put LED's and cathodes in a crystal one!
well done for post 360 on the Xbox thread

You'd know if you had a new cord, it has a great big box with a test and reset button! :D Mine arrived really quickly once I convinced them I need one. Better ring up sometime for one for my second Xbox, the cable that came with it looks like it belongs on a kettle! :D

Those are an inline RCD its just basically fire/fault protection and not required if you have RCD protected sockets on your fixed wiring via the Consumer Unit.

There's as much information as miss information, but this is the real fault

    what like these?

lot of work doing these by the way unless your good with solder and hot glue :)

Yeah similar, but initially just two cold cathode tubes, they're half blue and half green, use a modex connector so they'll connect really easily. I'm not sure how the people in the videos on youtube have got like 100 LEDs doing all these various light shows. And yeah soldering nad glue gunning isn't a problem.

thanks for the link drezsa. i've read a lot of that thread and seems the problem (which is due to poor solder joints on the PSU socket connection and flimsy cables) affects mostly pre-Revision B Foxlink PSUs, mostly available in 1.0 and 1.1 xboxes and possibly 1.2s to a lesser extent. the newer cables either cut out when a short or broken conection is detected, or have a tighter fit to lessen the chances of them shorting out with other connections. neither solve the original problem, though there's details in the first post of the above thread on how to check for, and fix, the original problem with a little disconstruction and a dab of solder.

you can buy pre build pcb's to do the controlling.
personally i moved away from cold cathodes after hearing some horror sories of exploding units.
remembering i was selling them to other people i decided to go led.
TBH its more work but oyu can get a better result
  • do any of you guys have proper RGBs scart cables for the xbox? if so, could any of you confirm what i've put in this post: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=637753&st=0&gopid=4199836&#entry4199836

basically i'm getting *very* little quality difference between CVBS (composite) and RGBs cables, though frankly probably because CVBS is so good... only difference i've seen is the DVD playback OSD ("Section Unavailable" etc. text) is a lot greener with RGBs than with CVBS (in which it's practically yellow). Everything I've tested so far tells me it's really outputting RGBs though (scart pinout, tv behaviour), only thing I've not checked is the xbox end connecter pinout (which needs 3 pins shorted to enable RGBs).
