hi is there any way of modding the xbox without the splinter cell, mem card and the action replay module pls? regards huggins0
-
Yes, but it's altogether more complicated and risky, it basically involves hot swapping the Xbox HD to your PC to copy the files over. Also unless you are a dab hand at removing the stickers to open it up it will make the guarantee worthless.
The marked prices of games are £9.99 in Gamestation and GAME, but there wasn't anything worth taking to the till to find out. I guess I will just have to wait until RM decide to deliver my exploitable game.0 -

I thought MechAssault was the main one to get (albeit a specific version...). what's this about splinter cell then? why is modding stuff so complicated0 -

I got Mechassault - bought it in a local games shop for about £5, works perfectly and easy to use. They looked at me funny when I asked to check the code on the disk
It is all very easy to do if you follow the instructions to the tee

[I believe the manufacturers make modding difficult because they don't want you to do it  - the xbox was a pretty cheap pc/media centre soon after release]Student Moneysaving Expert :beer:0 -
hi muddy fox - which instructions have you been following please ( a link would be much appreciated) and what number do i need to look for on the mech game etc - again a link to details on the web would be spot on! Regards Huggins
N.B i stumbled across this package Xploder Lite which claims to be able to mod the xbox - only need to buy a memory card apparently - anyone know anything about it?0 -
from googling xploder lite is just a memory card with a usb interface to allwo you to add the game save from the pc0

well i was just in the two leeds centre stores and the first said they had none (although they were so busy they could've just been trying to get rid of me) and the second (albion street), well... the first sales guy said yes, even offered me a choice of colours, asked me to go get one at the till at which point they said they'd sold out. so i've no idea what they really have, i just know i have none at all  yet another pointless trip in to high street stores, i really dunno why i bother leaving my pc anymore.

you want MS02301L on the disk (not 8L) which is possibly signified by X08-9226161, 62, or 64 on the case. that's from various links around the place. original Splinter Cell game or 007 - Agent Under Fire (not Classics versions or anything else) may work too. try searching for "xebian" or http://www.xbox-linux.org/ or http://www.xbox-scene.com .
oh and you also want a specific xbox version too, < 1.6, although 1.6 may still be modded somehow... so you want an xbox made before 2003 week 11 (see http://www.xbox-linux.org/wiki/Xbox_Versions_HOWTO ).0 -
yup older versions of splinter cell/007 AUF
ive had a thunk on this and making your own action replay.
the xbox controller port is just a usb with a different end.
so nothing(in my mind) to stop you piggy backing a usb port onto the wiring by soldering.
this allows direct pc connection and then connection to the xbox0 -

I don't think it is 100% within the rules to give you the direct link as it is breaking M$'s T+Cs [maybe the forums as well?] however go here:
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=how+to+go+from+xbox+to+xbox+media+centre&btnG=Search&meta=
and the first link/result is the fool proof way that I have used about 3 times with absolutely no problems.
Luckily I already had a datel memory card so wouldn't know about the xploder, but so long as it means that you can get a save file onto the xbox harddrive then it'll work
Just make sure you read the instructions carefully and slowly to ensure you don't go wrong. :beer:Student Moneysaving Expert :beer:0 -

you can use ANY memory card/usb flash disk in the xbox by using a controller port to USB adapter etc
HOWEVER on the pc you need special software to format and write to FATX partitions (FATX is the system xbox uses for its media, hard disks etc) - I don't know of any software that will work free of charge. datels own software will only work with it's own memory stick as it has a bit of software that only allows it to identify itself with the software. but this does mean that the xploder lite should work
PLUS the next thing is, if you manage to copy a file to the memory stick - and the memory stick isnt in the FATX format the XBOX will automatically format it before asking you (as soon as you plug it in) and you will lose all your information instantly.
Hope that makes some sort of sense
