I'm pretty sure that would give your kindle mate access to your amazon account and any associated plastic & while I love my friends, I don't even let my sons know my Amazon password.
Whereas borrowing the device & plugging it into a computer & just copying chunks - it's not exactly beautiful ethics & you don't get that "keep reading the same book across different devices", but it does whittle down the number of paper books slightly. As when you find one new writer, digitally, it can trigger seeking to lay hands on more be it charity shop, library, another kindle... Difficult.
I wholeheartedly commend planks & bricks to build a wall sized bookcase but check the joists can take the load, and that the wall is not going to get wet. Says she with a gable end that would make a wonderful book wall but when the wind direction & speed & rain combine? Not completely weatherproof. Start bookcase at least two bricks up off the floor & ensure whatever carpet you lay is washable. Plan for additional rugs over time. Brilliant noise & thermal insulation & decorative beyond words though. NB does make the secret door trickier - figuring hingeing & hanging a laden bookcase without it being a bit obvious is hard.5 -
Good advice, thanks DfV 🙂 It’s really early doors just yet though, as in - himself has been instructed to produce/acquire lots of planks and he’s measured the wall.They may take a while to appear like, the wall is approx 8ftx12ft. He was also instructed to fetch home a good pair of black labs and I’m still waiting on them ha haa!Edit - secret door is out cos it’s the party wall
I can’t tell you how much I really really want one now you’ve mentioned it!

In the end I only had time for the one chazzer on Sunday, but it was a good one! One M&S Per Una dress, a pair of tailored Next trousers, a mohair cape to keep me warn and a fitted blouse that will match a pair of trousers I have well.No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.9 -
Ooh that sounds like a nice haul Rosa
I'd have every wall as a Wall of Books, I really would.
Speaking of which, I mentioned this to himself last night. He needs to check which way the joists run (?) so the (godawful) laminate will have to come up. Won't be any time soon he says...

Soooo glad I don't have a book habit, (too many years at uni as a student and teacher made me loathe books
) And my concentration and attention span leave much to be desired these days. And it's bad enough having a bag/scarf/clothing/shoe habit!
Anyhoo, today in my local Oxfam they had a large table set out in the middle of the shop set out with a vast quantity of Minton porcelain. A whole matching set (12 piece settings) of both dinner and tea things plus various bowls, jugs, tureens, veg dishes, sauce boats, tea/coffee pots etc. etc. in different sizes. White background with a small ditsy navy and pale blue flower pattern, didn't look old fashioned and appeared in perfect condition. It was priced at £495 and the attached label indicated that the original cost had been £7,000! I would love to know where and who it came from. If I had the lifestyle and storage space I might well have been tempted! Fortunately I don't have either. Kicking myself for not taking a photo now as I would love to research it. Will be a week or so before I'm back that way and it's in a student, (non Minton buying I imagine), area so may still be there to take a pic.
(Now have a china earworm!)

The problem with a wall of books is it leaves no space to hang paintings. On the other hand a wall covered with paintings means you have to stack your books on the floor. Decisions, decisions......
@Miró
I'd love to see the china. Oxfam is pretty astute normally about their pricing given that they have their online shop as well. But to ship all that would cost a fortune which is likely part of the reason it's so cheap I would guess.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
