I've been really good recently - nothing needed so I've been avoiding them. Then yesterday aft we nipped into Morrisons so I could get a paper....... and I came out with 8 books from the charity table thing......
I even lifted one for himself for his patience (he was sat in the car cos I was "only gonna be a minute")I'm unsure about my spine, I think it's holding me back.6 -
Also - if anyone cracks that mythical 1-in-1-out secret, could you let me know please? My tally so far this year is more like 60-in-2-out...I'm unsure about my spine, I think it's holding me back.9

Recent finds
A Gap XL kids grey gilet with hood and detachable faux fur trim £5
Joules blue and white striped beanie £4
A coat and hat will be donated in place of these.
An Esprit pewter coloured slash neck top (kind of heavy satin) £9.50
A Tu BNWT knee length denim tiered dress £5.
I also found some Wallis petite wide leg trousers but when I got them home they wouldn’t fit over my thunder thighs so will have to go back.7 -
I'm very similar, replacing+upgrading the things I already have. I know what I like and what suits me, so I'm constantly trickle feeding better stuff in
For trousers that suit spring into summer, look for some good winter-weight linens. Marks do good stuff (I've got a few pairs of wide leg and slim leg) Debenhams and BHS did too but you don't often see them now. Most linen trousers now seem to cheapo thin stuff, even in proper shops.
However my 60-2 comment was about booksI'm unsure about my spine, I think it's holding me back.7 -
@YoungBlueEyes I think part of the trick may be to move all the books from one room or house to another. You have to go through things, find duplicates, find books you were given that you never really took to (how my relatives think I need any book by Marie Kondo I do not understand), books that are no no longer relevant or appropriate (the Bunty annual 1986 perhaps) etc Those you box up (count!) & let go. That way as new books come in, you do have to count and subtract. When you start to feel guilty, or your family accuse you of hypocrisy, you relocate a bookcase & start over.
Well, that's how I choose to do it. I evolved this after the chaps ordered a skip & lugged crates of books past me & I couldn't save them as I was told they all stank of rodent urine.
Currently I am at plus 6 so one good rummage & I'm toast, so I may review the cookbooks on the grounds that we can't afford to cook some dishes. Ticklish as the living historian aquizzed several glorious tomes & those I'm not letting go of.
That or reach out to a fellow Kindle user & just swap kindles for a week. They are memory sticks with posh screens. While pure Amazon supplies are all veiled under codes to make identifying what is that volume more difficult, my kindle sharing friends aren't that pure. Well, some of the books we enjoy quietly we wouldn't want to be seen giving home bookcase space to. (Even the 50 shades I kept electronic & then deleted as the grammar was unspeakable.)
Does this help?!6 -
It does help, thanks @DigForVictory
My trouble is - if I see a book that you don’t see often I can’t leave it because when would I next see a copy?!Getting rid of books… when I moved house previously I had to get rid of boxes and suitcases full of books without going through them cos our buyers were getting snitty and wanted to be in. I couldn’t honestly say “no no, you’ll have to wait another month cos I’ve approx 3 squillion books to sift through”. Well I happily could have actually, but we’d have lost the sale. My friend took them to charity shop without me even opening them for a look.
I don’t have a kindle but I might have to look into getting one. Himself is under instruction to fetch home big planks of wood from work, and build a whole-walled-sized bookshelf. They’ll help with the hateful heathen scum neighbours we’ve got too. I’ll snickle out any duplicates so that will decrease the volume…(Your rat urine story made my soul weep btw 😢)I'm unsure about my spine, I think it's holding me back.5 -
These are the 8 books… 😁

Yes, I know the feeling. The trouble/ joy of CS is that “ I may not see that book again and it looks so interesting “. So , we have lots and lots of books on the To Be Read Someday. And they are so cheap here… max one euro and I’ve still got a stash of the 10 for a euro from the CS that closed down. These are English run CS in case anyone was wondering.6

That’s the thing with chazzers, you’ve gotta lift stuff when you see it or do without…I'm unsure about my spine, I think it's holding me back.7

Kindle users... I noticed Amazon has an option when you buy a book, of where you would like it delivered. For instance, my laptop, phone, Kindle or my original Kindle. Could a friend's Kindle (or Kindle app) be added so they could read your books, and vice versa? No need to actually swap Kindles, and the other person's access can be deleted when you choose.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)
