Well done for facing it, @Coxy11! I love the fit of M&S jeans but I've bought them new maybe...once? I don't think any have had a free 'pre-loved' tissue though (thankfully).I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Just thought on buying trousers - or any clothes - from charity shops: they're generally steam cleaned before going out for sale, which isn't going to have happened to items bought new, which could have been through the fitting rooms more than once.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. Anything I buy from a chazzer, goes through the washing machine with Vanish, Persil Professional Hygiene laundry powder and Fucidil anti-fungal stuff plus Comfort.
Ugh to the tissues !.

Son is (saints willing) about to buy a house & someone said surely furniture might have weevils or bedbugs (or whatever the trendy insect is this week) & love him though I do, I will Not let him try to put a chest of drawers into my freezer.
When/if buying furniture from chazzers, what is your drill for checking they aren't bringing lamentation over the threshold? Or do you examine ruthlessly on site (and what are you looking for & how?
I know Miro has shopped with a paint swatch or garment belt to ensure colour but I believe that was for a colour check in matters sartorial. How do you know if a table of chair or sofa is worthy of lugging home (says she concerned that since he's on my insurance, it'll be my little car that is having furniture loaded into it!)
Or should I hand him a tape measure, hide the car keys & step back smartly - he'll either learn or I'll putter down for a brew to find the kitchen table has gone...10 -
DfV, most charity furniture shops will be able to arrange delivery. I would also suggest looking on Fb marketplace for cast-off household items - I've had some amazing bargains on there.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

On the question of insects in furniture, I think it's definitely buyer beware, you don't want woodworm, for instance. (I like the idea of trendy insects!) I'm not sure how easy it is to find things like bedbugs: thankfully not something I've yet come across.
Re disinfecting clothes: It's 60C for at least ten minutes to disinfect though of course a lot of fabrics won't tolerate that, in which case I'd be adding laundry disinfectant if for some reason I felt it needed disinfection. Washing at lower temperatures without disinfectant would reduce the amount of bacteria but not kill them. Personally I'm okay with a basic 30C wash for most things but sometimes it's hard to get rid of someone else's perfume or perfumed product, in which case a pre-soak in diluted vinegar seems to get rid of it better than changing temperature. I think the idea behind steam cleaning at charity shops is that steam is hot enough to kill a lot of bacteria but I don't know the science about exposure times or whatever else.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. I usually just put any clothes I buy from a charity shop on a normal wash when I get them home.10 -
