The 365 Day 1p Challenge 2023

I saw this on the village community web site and thought what a good idea. Please can I join in for 2023. There will be two of us DH and myself.
Someone on here said start at Dec31st and work backwards. That makes sense for us as there is no Co Tax for a couple of months, and, as usual, I overspent on food/treats in the lead up to Christmas so there is still plenty in the freezers and cupboards.
I'll copy the table onto my comp to mark off the days

Topscooby said:Hello each…major long term lurker here who’s finally bitten the bullet and decided to join in the forum fun and, hopefully, maybe contribute to helping and/or encouraging others with their personal financial goals
First off, could I politely request to be added to this challenge please?I have an easy access savings account ( with Santander) which pays 3% interest and which has the dizzying amount of 4p in it…at least it did until I paid the January monthly challenge payment of £4.96p into it ( this also satisfies my ocd in giving me a nice round figure of £5 lol ). I intend to add amounts on an ‘ad hoc’ basis but, hopefully, I will be able to keep track of my progress via the Challenge sheet/table mentioned in the first post of this thread and which I have printed off. Additionally, I will update my progress in this thread as and when suitable.
Next, just to give you a little bit of background behind my reasons for lurking for so long, and then deciding to actually register as a ‘forumite’ and contribute.
Over the past ten years my wife and I have been actively working to reduce our, not inconsiderable, debt. This debt was made up of several credit cards, bank loans and a hefty mortgage commitment…so nothing you haven’t heard about before from many other folks.
I stumbled across this forum whilst researching financial information on the MSE website…and became both fascinated and totally convinced that eradicating our debt was absolutely necessary and possible! I spent hours and hours reading many ‘Debt Free Wannabe’ diaries along with many ‘Mortgage Free Wannabe’ diaries also. THEY WERE AN ABSOLUTE INSPIRATION TO ME. Sorry for shouting it, but I cannot stress enough just how much these diaries had an effect on my determination to concentrate on finding our way back to solvency.
To cut an already long story down to a more palatable size it is with extreme pleasure, pride and an abundance of other emotions to confirm that we are, indeed, debt free and mortgage free ( five and a half years early
It’s now time to move on and, hopefully, learn from past mistakes and start planning (and saving) for a better future…which starts right here!
So, here we go…I’ve got a feeling this could be the start (or continuation) of something rather nice!
Cheers,

Hi all,. I just wanted to kindly ask to be able to join the challenge. I've tried to do this in previous years myself but like many resolutions they are forgotten about by February. I'm hoping by being in a group, this might help keep me on track!. Thanks

Hi just thought I'd pop on and let you know my first week total. I'm using cash and numbers depend on what is in my purse at the time. Although I will be trying to do the larger numbers first if possible.
I will post my amounts monthly with the yearly total as I always find it encouraging to hear how other people are getting on with the challenge.

@rainbowlife @keeponmoving - hi there and welcome. The challenge owner is on a short break and working from her phone not her laptop - she will catch up and get you a number. Until then just keep saving the pennies or ticking off the boxes and wait for the admin to catch up early next week

The challange is off to a great start I have £22.48 for week 1. I will log it properly with my # each month to help enthusiastic saver as its such a busy thread!!I am trying to work backwards but also using what change I have. I am also doing a mix of online straight into a new savings account and a tub at home. Its going to keep me on my toes, but I have the challenge sheet and a record in my phone.Only 51 more weeks to go
