after looking at this again i have decided to change how i will save during the year, will keep the monzo savings account and to make it easier will try to save £2 per day minimum. my target therefore will be £730 for the year.
wife has decided to drop out because she is better at saving than me and its true to say she would probably achieve her goal by april.
  • Very late to the party but would really appreciate joining in. I have put £4.96 into a boosted Zopa account (3.06%, 31 days notice) and will aim to complete by 1st November so I can give notice for Christmas.
Thank you so much all for the inspiration and kick to do this. Really made a difference.

  • So, since joining this challenge last week things have‘developed’! I’ve (we’ve) opened another current account with a different bank which has given us the ability to open an easy access savings account with a decent interest rate of 4%. Because of this I’ve decided to transfer my 1p 365 day savings into this account only this time my wife has decided to give it a go too! To keep things simple I intend adding the monthly totals just after pay day each month.

Therefore, this month will be the normal January monthly figure of £4.96 but times two ( to include my wife) giving a total of £9.92p

Going forward we will endeavour to pay the required monthly figure ( x2 ) but we might change which months figure that we pay. I believe several people have mentioned paying November and December payments when they don’t have to pay council tax and this seems very wise to me…not least of all because December especially is normally a high spend month for us for obvious reasons. However, no promises, we shall just have to wait and see nearer the time.

So, for now #86 Topscooby £9.92 for January please.

Great start @Topscooby.  I will update the spreadsheet.  4% is a great rate.
