I did a bit of decluttering yesterday, in my bedroom and in the kitchen. Looks like making the commitment to declutter has filtered into my mind already = look forward to getting even more stuck in 2023.The obstacle is the path.https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6406802/drcarries-adventures-in-saving-to-be-a-mortgage-free-wannabe#latest15

Hello, may I please join you for 2023? I’ve been lurking on the 2022 thread for a while and liked what I’ve seen.
Several ‘events’ over the years have wreaked havoc (on and off) with my house and routines, now the place needs to change from a tip to a home. Things need sorting and putting in the right places so that “works” and redecoration can take place - I used to do the painting and decorating myself but now will have to employ someone, and moving “stuff” will be a major task.
I’m not sure how much will actually leave the house, I need to see and and assess first. I followed Marie Kondo some years ago, and got rid of a number of items then, some of which I’ve subsequently regretted. There’s so much to do I often find myself overwhelmed and unable start on anything. Most things seem to be “Priority 1”. And when I do start a task, something crops up halfway through which has to be done there and then. It sometimes feels like living in a sitcom.Anyway, that long ramble is a bit of an introduction to me. I don’t guarantee to post very frequently but would appreciate the chance to air my little triumphs and tragedies.“Tomorrow is another day for decluttering.”Decluttering 2023 🏅🏅🏅🏅⭐️⭐️16 -
waves to Mrs Salad Dodger I would like to join - 2022 has been a very busy year with ds moving jobs and his stuff at mine till his flat purchase goes through, mum moving in, mr piano's stuff still at mine and having to clear my old work office before we have a permanent new office - i'm sure you get the picture! I will be 60 on 27th August so I'd like to start 27th December and will set myself 8 target areas, 1 per month. Wish me luckMrsSD 2023 declutter medals 🏅🏅⭐⭐12

Thank you for setting up this thread again Mrs SD and for all your efforts "cheerleading" us through the last year. You said that 2022 was a washout for you on the decluttering front - I can only take your word for that (although I do think a wagging finger emoji might appear if any of us said it about ourselves and you'd be reminding us of what we had achieved
) - what I do know for sure is through this thread you have motivated and inspired so many of us to declutter! Also how very sensible of you to have so many lovely holidays last year - good for you!!
"Hi Again! " to old friends on the EDT - you have been such a great support, motivating force and source of companionship! "Welcome" to all the new people joining us!
I'm not quite ready to set my 2023 goals but it felt like a good time to reflect on my 2022 goals:- 2022 in 2022. This will include physical items, admin & house maintenance tasks. Well I managed just over half that - that's over 1,000 items / tasks.
- I'm also going to count actions that correspond to decluttering bad habits (Pepsi Max and Social Media) - I did it!!!! (Really proud of this one!)
- re-establishing my morning routine (prayer, stretching & journalling) , very hit and miss on some of these - one to carry forward to next year.
- being thoughtful & generous to others - A definite improvement - I've been making much more of an effort. It's not that I was particularly thoughtless or mean (I hope!
) - I just allowed overwhelm and fearfulness around money to get in the way. Another one to carry forward to next year.
- Learning things (including starting to read physical books again) etc - Still not prioritising this. I did focus really well on my baptism prep though- Clearly I focus better when I have something to work towards.
- I also want to stop procrastination on household maintenance and it is my goal for the early part of 2022 to make my house into an asset so that I have more choices. Well I made a start - I got my windows replaced. Replacing Kitchen & Bathroom on the agenda for next year
- I also need to stop bringing things into my house so will operate a 1 in 1 out rule for clothes which are my downfall (nearly all from CS but that's no excuse) -Goodness I forgot I even said this! There's definitely more gone out than come in. I can walk in a CS and not feel a craving to buy anything now!
