They didn't pay an additional amount. Standard delivery is £3.50, Next day delivery is £4.99. If they paid the extra £1.49 then yes that should be refunded, but standard delivery is just that.TELLIT01 said:If the OP has paid an additional amount, over and above the standard delivery charge, for guaranteed 48 hour delivery that element should be refunded. However, to expect guaranteed delivery in the middle of a postal strike is possibly being a wee bit naive.1 -
A package was sent to me tracked on 6 December.
All tracking said was it had been uplifted. Tracking never updated and when I input the tracking number it said 'not recognised'.
It was delivered on 10 December and tracking still had not changed.

Still no sign of delivery - it has now been 10 days since orderingThe letter was sitting in the local sorting office last Thursday (tracking confirms) and a delivery was due on Saturday (didn't happen) and again today (still waiting - although normal post was delivered at 11am)And Royal Mail staff think that they deserve a pay rise ?On your bikes mate

There have been delays due to the strikes. Under normal circumstances your letter would have probably been delivered by now.MouldyOldDough said:Still no sign of delivery - it has now been 10 days since orderingThe letter was sitting in the local sorting office last Thursday (tracking confirms) and a delivery was due on Saturday (didn't happen) and again today (still waiting - although normal post was delivered at 11am)And Royal Mail staff think that they deserve a pay rise ?On your bikes mate

Royal Mail do not make it very easy to complain either

You didn’t pay Royal Mail, M&S did so you complain to M&S and it’s up to them to complain to Royal Mail. However I expect M&S will just say standard delivery has no guaranteed date and then Royal Mail state its strikes causing a backlog. If you really needed a specific date that’s why they offer next day or named day delivery for extra cost. Or for a gift card just use email.MouldyOldDough said:

In future, just send money electronically instead. Vouchers come with enough potential problems as it is, but if someone's told you precisely where they want to spend that money, the one thing vouchers offer over cash - the element of 'surprise' - has gone already.MouldyOldDough said:diinozzo said:During the period of well advertised strike days YOU chose to use a Company that used Royal Mail. Why?Because they wanted n M&S voucher for XmasI was unaware that they would be unable ro deliver for a minimum of 9 days and in any case - it's not up to me to choose the delivery company is it?It has been sitting in my local sorting office for 4 days with no delivery attempt
But - having said that....
I used two M&S gift cards a couple of months ago. They were both past their expiry dates but I'd had them renewed instore at my local M&S. (One had expired and been renewed at least once and the other had expired and been renewed twice - it was six years old).
Interestingly M&S customer services online declined to renew them on the grounds it would be unfair to other gift card holders(!). Staff instore were happy to revalidate them no problem.
I also recently used a WH Smith gift token that had no expiry date and must have been at least ten years old, possibly even twenty!0 -

It is not guaranteed 48 hour delivery though, it is a tracked service with a 48 hour target. I agree on expecting Royal Mail to deliver in the middle of a strike though, the backlogs are huge, they may not even catch up until after Christmas.TELLIT01 said:If the OP has paid an additional amount, over and above the standard delivery charge, for guaranteed 48 hour delivery that element should be refunded. You might want to read my comment again. I said "If the OP has paid an additional amount for guaranteed 48 hour delivery". I have no idea if that is the case, as I haven't searched the M&S website, which is why I said "If".
