Not happy contact your Councillor and MP - doubt you will get anywhere but as someone has said ***the law hasn't been changed to make yellow paint a LEGAL necessity.***I read some time ago that the M1 was fully covered by speed cameras and speeds were monitored - whilst they were not live for prosecution action was taken about persistent offenders - the guys with lead boot.I know it is a rather hackneyed comment but if not sure what the limit is **slow down** Never mind what others do you are driving your cars not theirs. It won't make a great deal of difference to your arrival time.
I'll try for the last time
OP cited that the speed average cams should have been better marked if they really wanted the workers to be safer
I agree with the OP as in London at least those who advocate/profit from speed cams awlays refer to them as "Safety Cameras"
I have to agree that the speed cams aka safety cams are in areas which are considered accident blackspots. So why not more and bigger signs to alert those new to the areas to make good drivers even safer? Sure, those that could not care less will do as they wish.
The painting of sneaky speedcams/safety cams on England's motorways those on gantries - why were they painted yellow when they were challenged if it not the law as the courts follow the law as defined by the government?
Thanks

The result? Lots of people slowing down for the cameras and then speeding back up again. Amazingly colleagues of mine in Korea have been caught still in spite of these. So does painting the cameras actually help safety at all? Or do they just encourage people to brake for the camera and then speed up again? I'd put money on the latter. It's a mentality partly caused by the use of cameras themselves.
If you want strict appliance of speeding laws go to Australia and New Zealand. On public holidays, the tolerance is only 1km/h. Go over a certain speed and they tow your car whether it is a rental car or not.3 -

But the most safe thing is people doing no more the speed limit. Being able to see the camera encourages the unsafe behaviour of braking for the camera and then speeding up again. Which is often pointless if its an average zone anyway.
Also that Daily Mail article is not about safety, it states "All cameras will now be yellow to prevent drivers feeling conned" and "....would be painted yellow by next year and displayed more clearly to give drivers confidence that they are not being unfairly penalised."
So nothing to do with safety just "motorists" feeling the cameras are only to make money.1 -

So you agree that the mister agreed to have them painted yellow as they are more visible?
Why would he do that if he felt it was right or challenge the courts and keep they grey?
Why would "drivers" reps like the AA agree to yellow cams and not grey is it because they are more visible
and better at alerting drivers, more drivers? If not, why not leave them grey rather than spend thousands changing colour?
I'm 100% with the OP that all speed cams aka safety cams in England should be painted yellow and even bigger signs as this will reduce accidents as that is what these cams are touted as, "Safety Cams" - see my link from TFL
People should not speed but in newer areas, even good drivers can get caught out and where there is a cam, it is there for safety reasons and this is why many call them safety cameras and these should always be painted yellow and are that colour now because they are easier to spot.
I've not seen a grey safety camera in London and areas we often travel.
I honestly don't have anything more to add, so see the links I've posted and drive within the speed limits like all good drivers or face the consequences, rightly so.
Thank you for your interaction, appreciated it.
Thanks
ps - to make it easier for you ie Safety Cameras. I'm advocating even clearer signs to reduce accidents

There is no legal requirement to paint cameras any particular colour, to make sure they are visible or to provide warning notices of their presence. In the same way there is no legal requirement for undercover police officers, who are deployed to detect burglars, to wear high-viz jackets, only stand where they can be seen, or to pin a notice to the lampposts to say they are operating in the area.
The only thing that needs to be visible are the "terminal" speed limit signs showing a change of limit and repeaters where required by law. If you have any doubt what the speed limit is, unless there are signs or indications to the contrary:- If there is street lighting it is 30mph (except on motorways)
- If there is no street lighting it is National Speed Limit (for cars that is 70mph on dual carriageways and 60mph on single carriageways).

But surely for someone who has such a breadth of experience as the person I assume you're referring to, someone who has had advanced driver and close protection training, this would be schoolboy stuffI'm actually beginning to wonder whether they drive a Toyota Yaris without the option rear brake upgrade ............
