  • With reference to trials from Lovefilm. I've had 4 trials from them and they have never stopped me. I've used the same address and email for 3 of them. I have just cancelled the last months trial I got out of a box of Nacho's. Bought 2 boxes with a voucher in each. I am going to wait a couple of weeks and see if I can get another trial.

    Hi Folks,

Just noticed that Tesco's are also offering 1000 extra Clubcard points with the following link http://www.tesco.com/rentalf . You get a 14day free trial. Then 1,000 Clubcard points after your 3rd month. If you spend the 1,000 points online through their Clubcard site it's worth £40, isn't it?

    Here's the T&C's...
This offer expires at midnight on 30th April 2009. In order to qualify for your 1000 Tesco Clubcard points, you must validly register for the free trial with the correct promotion code CCFEB9 and make your third DVD Rental monthly payment.
    Cheers,

    Norm :D

I was just about to join the outnow.co.uk free trial and hesitated
I was wondering what their policy would be if films got lost in the post.
It can happen and has happened to me before with LoveFilm
LoveFilm didnt charge me anything when it happened
I phoned outnow to ask about this and they said that there is a £10 penalty per DVD and £15 per Blueray. Even if it does not arrive when on its way to you and even if you send it back with a proof of posting.
Personally I find their policy unfair because with 2 films at a time we can end up being £30 out of pocket even if its no fault of our own.
Its the same if you fill out the forms they send you to declare the loss
This is very unreasonable because you can bet that they have covered themselves with insurance
I asked if we get refunded if they get it back through insurance and they said no
I'm sure many dont consider this when joining up with them

The people who signed up and didn't get the 90 day trial at tesco, did you go through a cashback site? Because they put in their own promotional code over the top of the 90 day deal one.

I'm gutted coz I just had a lovefilm 14 day trial (mainly for cashback) and now can't have the 90 day trial with tesco!

Does anyone know what they check for repeat offenders? Is it the email address, the house address, the credit card details or all of the above? Its just rejected me with same address and card buy different email. :(

I couldn't fault lovefilm really, 5 discs in 14 days, and I could have had more if I'd been a bit better with posting them back.

Currently on a 14 day trial with blockbuster (for cashback) and they seem ok too.

  • Does anyone know of a DVD rental by post system that isn't online??? I have an elderly Uncle, who lives miles from his local town, isn't online (and never will be) and would love to rent DVD's. There must be a market there , cos he can't be the only elderly, isolated person that wants to watch DVD's

Outnow are awful - awful - awful - don't touch them with a bargepole.

They renamed themselves Outnow, but used to be called MyMovieStream - if you google that you will see what they do if things go missing, or if you dare to try and cancel your account.

You can also search MSE and there is more info on here as well.

Go with LoveFilm, they are excellent and so much less stress.

Basically they have a 'process' whereby they take ages to answer your claim, it may have improved, but many times they charge you for the lost dvd and they also claim the cost from Royal Mail, so that they win every time.
Plus I always found the selection quite bad and they don't send items like series box sets in eposide order.
Customer service used to be terrible, perhaps it has improved - see some recent reviews before going ahead. Again, I would say LoveFilm are far better.

Tansmum can you arrange it for him? Perhaps you could set up the online account and then call him occasionally to ask what he wanted on his list. It would be an ideal gift, as he would get so much enjoyment :T I doubt anyone does dvd rental by post any other way - unless his local independent store would do it?
