  • Forgive me if this is the wrong place to post this but here goes. Don't we all have a lot of DVDs at the back of the cupboard gathering dust? Why don't we just swap them with each other? This would entail no cost at all and get us utilising the dusty stuff on our shelves - pass on that fabulous film experience to your moneysaving friends! I'm sure i've read somewhere about book swapping associations and not sure why there isn't the same for DVDs? I guess we have to make sure there are no copyright infringements but if no money passes hands how is it any different to having a friend over to watch a DVD for the evening? Okay, so i could start the ball rolling with my copy of Donnie Darko.....

    Hi

Just been reading your posts and would like say that I have been with Lovefilm for ages now and never had any problems at all (I am on 2 discs unlimited which costs £12.99 a month) To be honest its the first company I went with as a friend gave me a voucher for a months rental and I've been with them ever since (they even do payment holidays when you go away for a few weeks and dont need to pay)

They are offering a free months subscriptoion I would highly reccommend them as Ive had no probs at all. :j

moviestream was just awful. Truly awful.

We had so few dvds in our trial period that we would NEVER consider using them.

i cancelled the membership as per the terms of the free trial and lo and behold they claimed not to have received the dvds and charged us £12.99 for A SECOND MONTH.

There is NO customer service - no-one answers the phone and no-one replies to emails until normally about three days later.

They eventually emailed me asking me to email a copy of the proof of postage (by his time they had received the dvds and had confirmed this) and gave me a non existent email address.

My dh has had to cancel his card as he is worried (esp after reading stuff on this forum) that they will continue to take £ from his account.

Do not touch moviestream - spread the word!

    Dx

They did the same thing to me, but charged me £14.99 despite being signed up for the two disc option (which should have been £12.99). Sent the proof of posting to them at the requested email address but never had a reply (the discs turned up the day after they billed me). Now Iam been hooked into another month of rubbish service.

There are now many threads all over MSE about MyMovieStream and lots of unhappy people, including me, Martin should definately check them out - and it would be great if there was a feedback poll for them...

  • We have been with Tesco's for a number of years now, we pay £17 a month for the 3 dics at home option with games. I did all the "tarting" before settling for Tesco's, apart from the odd disc we have had very little problems & nearly always have at least one game (PS2 sometimes but mainly PS3, Wii or DS) in fact at the moment we have 2 games both for the Wii. If you send them back in the post either Fri or Sat they don't send a new one out til Tues but otherwise send one out say Mon & get a new one Weds, can't fault them at all really for the money. Generally we go through about 4/5 a week.

I posted about MyMovie Stream elsewhere on the boards earlier this week, then just found this comment. Yes - I agree, they definitely need looking into by Martin.

I signed up for two week free trial and they refused to send me out the two free cinema tickets they promised. The customer service guy - who seemed to have just received in a pep-talk about how to argue with customers without provocation - basically said I was sad for trying to get the tickets, that I'd not fulfilled the T&Cs and that he had paying customers to deal with. When I asked him to explain how I had not fulfufilled the T&Cs (I'm very sure I had) he said he wouldn't explain and that they didn't have to give me a reason not to send the tickets. Then he hung up on me!

I've reported them to the Advertising Standards Agency for false advertising (i.e. they are not giving what they promised), but I know mine is a relatively minor case and don't know if they can do anything realisticaly. Still, it seems indicative of a company which thinks it can ride roughshod over what it promises customers.

It seems other people have had far worse than me in terms of failure to cancel accounts etc. A lot of the comments I've read seem to relate to problems with free trials in one way or another (e.g. no free DVDs, or cinema tickets dispatched, or account cancellation links removed, or failure to process cancellation). I think Martin should definitely get on to them about this.

They seem at least unethical, and at worst hovering on the wrong side of the law.

    Hi all,

Regarding MoneyBackMadness, I have had a note back from MSE as follows:

    "Hiya

We're not going to do our own poll on it as the Lovefilm one in the article covers mymoviestream as well, but feel free to get one started yourself if you like.

Meanwhile we're going to take the link out of the table in the article.

    Thanks again for that :)"

  • I’m not sure if this thread is the right place for this, so apologies if it isn’t.
Both my wife & I love movies and until recently enjoyed getting though a huge number from Lovefilm. Unfortunately, last month due to my dwindling disposable income I had to bite the bullet and cancel my subscription (I work for an estate agent!). My Sky movies subscription went six months ago, and I was feeling pretty sorry for myself until I found these websites:

    http://www.myfreefilms.co.uk
    and
    http://www.viewfilm.net

They list all the films on Freeview / Freesat etc. without having to trawl though all the channels in TV guides. I didn’t realise there were so many movies on in a week, especially with the availability of the extra ITV & Five channels, and of course FilmFour. We’ve found some great films, many of which I’ve never heard of.
Although its not perfect, it certainly softens the blow of loosing my weekly movie feed, and I haven’t had to resort to watching the soaps yet!
  • Is it worth starting hiring from LOvefilm or a similer site or should I carry on using Blockbuster and the local video shop? WHat are the benefits?
