I used to be with Blockbuster rental for about a year. However this was about 3 years ago and prices seem to have changed a bit since then. I found that their service was outstanding and turn around was 3 days (from posting to receiving) almost without fail.
I am now looking at restarting this as I've just saved £20 a month by ditching Sky Movies!
I have seen EasyCinema who are doing a pay as you go option. This still works out at £2 per movie like all other services, however you pay per movie instead of per month. The only problem I can see is that they are powered by LoveFilm!

    Has any body used them?
    stay lucky!
    Steve.
  • You should def consider online dvd rental.. it's much cheaper than renting on the high street and you can keep the discs as long as you like.

I've tried both Blockbuster and LoveFilm and they're both really good. Blockbuster are running a free trial for a month which looks a good offer.

    i found prices here www.dvdrentalcompare.com

I used the easycinema PAYG service about a year ago - it was ok, although a little slower than others, and I did notice it wasn't as easy to get some older films.

Lovefilm now do a PAYG service too - works out around £1.89 per disc if I recall correctly.

Both lovefilm and easycinema PAYGs are on Quidco, so you can (hopefully) get some cashback, which offsets the cost if you're not happy after a while.

If you have Egg credit card you can get a free 2 month trial with Outnow.co.uk.

I just signed up the free trial with the 3 month trial code given but during the signing up it automatically changed the code that I put in to something else and I received only 21 day trial. I emailed to tesco dvd rental customer service about this and they will not change it for me. Definitely not going to be their customer after the trial is expired.

I have signed up for the free 3 month trial no problems

My problem is knowing what films to order
I dont find the tescos site is very good it just brings up the ones they want you to have I think
I have trawled google for "best films" "top films" etc... but you get a list of the usual suspects

Are there any really good sites that can recommend films by genre,or mood or something like that ?

You could use IMDB.com or rotten tomatoes and view the top rated films by year + the top 250 of all time on IMDB (also by category).

A few of my all time favourites are: The Squid and the Whale; American Beauty; North by Northwest; Le Diner de Cons; Hable Con Ella; Badlands; Grizzly Man; Touching the Void; Das Leben der Anderen; Amores Perros; Hallam Foe; Once; The Lookout; After the Wedding.

Don't forget they have TV series too - good way to try them before forking out for a box set. Eg: The Wire, Dexter etc.

Same here. I just cancelled straight away as I don't trust Tesco.

I don't think Tesco and Lovefilm should be lumped together, even though they are run by the same company. With lovefilm, I always found that new DVDs were dispatched the day they were received at lovefilm (the day after I returned them). With Tesco, I find theat there is nearly always one extra day between the DVD being received and the next ones being sent. If you are a heavy DVD viewer, you really notice this extra day processing time.
