OP, what was the exact problem and then I may be able to help you, if you wish.
Thanks1 -

But do the previous few comments indicate that these people never check their tyres, and rely simply on an annual MOT check to highlight any dangerous faults that may be present on their cars? Not just tyres, obviously - but how would you feel if you were driving around with a dangerously defective tyre, had a blowout on the motorway and ended up killing or seriously injuring yourself, your passengers or some innocent passing motorist?Yes, we're all told we should check our tyres weekly. Arguably that's a bit overkill - but a quick 5 minutes once a month is not unreasonable. You really do need to be making some effort to ensure your car is roadworthy. Nothing too onerous, but simple basic checks that any driver should be capable of making. Relying on an annual MOT is really not sufficient.<Rant over, no offence intended, hope none was caused>How do people check out the inner surfaces regularly? No reliance should be placed on the above! I find something a bit odd about this situation.
You booked for a tyre to be replaced, the OSR. Yet the fitter told you he was going to replace the OSF and then did just that.
Why didn't you ask him to stop there and then and just replace the one you requested?
The fitter told you he was going to replace the wrong tyre and you let them. Is that the complaint?
If I went for a replacement rear tyre and the fitter told me before they did any work they were going to replace one on the front, I would at least tell them no, don't do that.
If they didn't agree I would just drive off.
Ok, you might have pre paid an agent for the tyre fitting but there are ways to claim that back if the agent refused to return the payment.3 -
I have heard good reviews on Asda tyres but maybe you didn't get a good experience.
I would have shown the tyre fitter the MOT report via the GOV website or shown them the paper report. That way they can't dispute which tyre needed doing0 -
Sounds like at least two tyres were goosed.
I can't see the fitter just changing a random tyre.1 -

What do you say at the time when the fitter told you they'd replaced the wrong tyre?
Presumably the correct thing to do at that stage was to confirm with the MOT certificate and/or garage what one needed to be replaced and sort it there.
Given you accepted the work and took the car away I'm not sure how much of a claim you'd have. You can try though. I'd submit LBA's to both Asda and the tyre fitter for a refund of the cost of the tyre you had to get fitted but I wouldn't waste much time or money trying to pursue it.

The OP said this: - "I said "MOT tester failed the offside rear tyre."
Tyre centre manager said "No, it's the offside front needs repairing. But don't worry. I'll check all the tyres carefully, inside and out. Trust me. I'm an expert."
Then he replaced the offside front, which was fine, whilst leaving me to drive on a dangerous offside rear tyre. It was then failed by the MOT inspector a second time, and, in order to get through the MOT, I bought a new tyre elsewhere, of a different brand."1 -
The "don't waste time" argument applies to Asda, as well, surely? Faced with proceedings, they either settle, or they have to think quite hard about their defence. That's an awful lot more effort than they have put in so far.
