We are advised 'if you haven't received the WFP by 13th Jan please contact us', with the implication that you definitely should have. However we (unfortunately) live in the real world where we know that 'c*ck up' is the rule!

Called the Winter Fuel line again on Monday, and was told that I'd be paid the money today, 13th Jan. Early hours of this morning it appeared in my bank account ( yes, I checked my online banking at 4am). Just as well I called on the 3rd January and alerted them that my eligibility status was incorrect, otherwise I could have been waiting longer.

Anyone who thinks they should receive WFA but hasn't, ring the number on the government website as soon as you can. In my experience your query will be dealt with promptly because the staff seem pretty good, and on both occasions I only had to wait a couple of minutes before being connected to an advisor ( although there were a number of options to go through before that). Not sure exactly when the cut off date is for claiming, but I think its in March.
