Last year I was paid on the 11/11. I tend to agree the government are delaying payment. I don't think they realise how needed this is. It is to help with the cost of living as well as energy. Some pensioners have been struggling for sometime. As for the difficulty of paying this, someone only has to hit a switch hey presto. We are all on computer!
I think they do or they wouldn't be paying it at all.

Exactly. It was the same with all the other CoL payments, if people didn't receive it within a couple of days of the start of the payment period they would start threads asking why they hadn't received it. It's not as simple as "pushing" a button and everyone will receive the payment.
Yes, I saw that too, there must have been a dozen posts on the same subject asking the same question. Thankfully I am and will not be one of them. I have no idea what we may get, when why and how much. When/if something turns up in the bank that's OK for me.
It's hard enough trying to cope and juggle money around to be able to live than to stress myself out by worrying about what the next extra will be and when and for how much.

I know when I will get mine, Winter 23/ Spring 24.
I hit my retirement date this year after the cut off date to qualify for the allowance.
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

Many pensioners are not on computer!  I live in sheltered housing, there are 33 over 60s.  12 have a computer, the rest don’t

I have never had my payment until the 2nd week of December
I believe the comment was related to all customers being on DWPs system.
    Fair enough  :)

We are both state pensioners and for the time being also get Pension Credit (this may well change after April because of the 10% increases) So for me nothing can be planned for after April. We currently get a monthly reduction to our fuel bill and have been told to expect a £150 fuel bill further payment and a £500 payment sometime before January 23. When and if these happen, it will be an extra bonus.

The Pension Credit threshold is being increased like all the other benefits so you won't lose out on anything :)

The sooner you get it you will spend it.

What will you use to pay the bills oin the new year when it has been spent.

If you are not going to spend it now, then there is no need for it to be paid now.

The fact it is called a winter fuel  payment would indicate it is for fuel bills.

The basic £200 (or £300 for over-80s) is.  The £300 top up is the Cost of Living payment added to the WFP, presumably for ease of administration.
  • It doesn't matter if the £500 payment is for fuel, heat, or betting on horses.  People will spend it on what they want. Let's face it - some will have already spent it. Some will have been spent on gas/electricity, some on weed, some on champagne, some in the betting shop, and some stuffed under the mattress. I haven't even had mine yet, but when I do, it will remain in my bank account until I decide where it's going.

Likewise, the £500 will stay in the bank account. To be honest we have our budget set in that the fuel bill is covered every month out of income received. Our day-to-day expenses, food, home insurance etc is also covered out of ordinary income. We tend to save maybe £200 a month out of the income received. Our fuel bill is currently running at £400 in credit each month in the anticipation of what may happen in April.
These COL payments that I have been getting - £150 Council Tax rebate & the £650 one is also in the bank account.
Making a budget works for me as is not spending anything other than the absolute minimum. It is cheaper to buy a second-hand good quality jumper from a charity shop than it is to put the central heating on. I also bought a pair of good quality leather second hand fur lined boots for the winter at the cost of £7.50!

  • Does anyone know if the top up is paid the same time as WFP
