Fixed price tariff

  • You have been paying the same as everyone else since October as the price cap came into effect then. For the previous month's you were paying about 20% more because you signed up for the fix. Your payments were not changed at the time because EDF only change them at review.
  • Thanks. As I have said I read my meters monthly and submit the readings online to EDF. Despite this they don’t put them on- not sure why. The bill pictured is estimated but I checked the readings and they are pretty much the same. I will have a look into where I am
    using energy as I am
baffled. Thanks again for all advice.

You need to simply log into your EDF account (via their website or on their app) to upload your readings.  If you have a smart phone download their app and then enter your readings there.  You will probably find that easier for you.  If you don't have a smart phone then use their website and log into your account there.

Thanks for all your advice. I just can’t understand why it looks like my usage is more than others as I don’t use much. I don’t have heating on, don’t have tumble dryer and don’t really use much at all in the day. It’s odd.
One of the other pages of your bill should state your Estimated Annual Consumption for each of gas and electricity. Can you find those numbers and share them here?

    Send your readings to

    complaintresolution@edfenergy.com

and ask them why they are not being used

But please read them again, now, and let us know what they are.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

A student household has a jam jar in the kitchen for food and household expenditure.  They put a fixed £100 a week into it.  That's the equivalent of the direct debit.  They take it to the supermarket for the weekly shop and the cashier rings up the bill for the items placed in the trolley.  If there's enough in the jam jar to pay the bill that's fine, they take it home and top it up.  If not, they have a problem and will have to increase the kitty to £120 per week or whatever.
The alternative would be that they scrap the kitty and just have a whip round at the checkout each time.  That's the equivalent of  a Variable Direct Debit.
There are pros and cons of Fixed and Variable DDs.  A Fixed DD can smooth out the big bills in winter and the small bills in summer, but if the amount is set too low then there can be nasty surprises, especially if billing is only quarterly or six monthly; if users don't read their meters or smart meter portable displays there's no warning of high consumption until it's too late.  There are then wails when people who think that they're on 'All You Can Eat' suddenly find that their 'fixed' DD suddenly has to be substantially increased.
A Variable DD avoids all these problems, but it does mean that a large winter bill can be problematic if you haven't put sufficient money aside.  But at least you're in direct control of your budget rather than having the energy company doing it for you, possibly not very well.

Take screenshots when you input your readings, then complain to EDF if they don't use them for your billing. EDF annoyingly only generate bills once every 6 months, so you can't rely on the online account to track your usage and cost.
It is puzzling why you are on E7 with gas heating. Have you been on E7 for many years? Without actual readings, it isn't possible to say what your usage really is, but the estimates make it very high (and a majority on the expensive day rate). You say the actual readings are close, but how close?
What do you run off electricity that is using so much? Lots of long electric showers every day?
Do you have any permanently powered features, such as a garden pond or external floodlights?

Well, something somewhere's gone wrong because the last three readings are estimates.
