Octopus Saving Session

So we are one of the fortunate ones, able to take advantage of these sessions as we both work from home and can easily adjust our schedules and don't mind eating early or late etc.
It's become obvious to us this really does lend itself to those already in an advantageous position in life in the main.
We have loved the savings this has given us and the game of shifting usage, circa £200, but like many other schemes it really doesn't get down to where it is needed most.
As some may know we did our saving sessions through loop starting 6 sessions in (Eon Next such a poor execution of this DFS scheme) and with that you get paid in Amazon vouchers. This will all be spent on local charity and organisation lists.
Maybe others can think about donating some of their savings.5 -

Wasn't the original point to take a load off the grid during certain times? Then after learning of the adjustment period people started to take advantage of it
If it worked by basing usage over a long period then probably more people probably could take advantage of it
In fact I still don't even see the actual point of this if people are just gonna overwhelm the grid in the hours before the session.0 -

3 hour IDA period that did not include the hour before/after turn down period was obviously set up as part of turn down events formula for a reason, can you not think of a reason ???0 -

Octopus stated:Try to shift more of your peak energy to before the Session – e.g. try to run the washing and cook earlier rather than later – and avoid switching everything off hours ahead of time.Couldn’t I just game the system by using much more power before the Session?
We can’t blame you for wondering! But the cost of using much more energy every day over Winter just so you can earn more during a few hours of Saving Sessions just wouldn’t add up favourably in the end.

The energy suppliers are happy for people to use more energy during the IDA.
It costs them, nothing, just the opposite in fact.
You buy electricity from them that they make a profit on and they get paid by the national grid for anything their customers `save'
Then they pass some of the payment received from the national grid on to their customers and keep the rest!
The more customers `save', the more they make.2 -

And if you think it's marginal because of the setup costs, well, they would be the same whatever the outcome.
It is in their interests for customers to `save' as much as possible.
If we `saved' very little it would cost them a fortune by your logic.0 -
What is the consumption during the saving hour compared with, is it compared to your normal use at that time, or compared to your (average?) consumption during the three hour IDA?

The last couple of sessions I haven't been at home to charge my car during the IDA period and my solar panels have zeroed out my import. This seems to have confused the system as I've ended up with the little ghost. Hopefully the final session will actually have some savings.
There has been discussion in our house whether charging my car during the IDA instead of the cheap night period is gaming the system. I do feel a little guilty, but console myself that I am demonstrating my willing / ability to timeshift my most significant demand. Over the 12 sessions, it has become clear to me that my ability to do this is most impacted by the day of the week - some days I am able to flex more than others.4.3kW PV, 3.6kW inverter. Octopus Agile import, gas Tracker. Zoe. Ripple x 3. Cheshire1
