Octopus Saving Session

  • I didn't earn any points on the previous session as everyone was out for the afternoon so although my evening usage was much lower it didn't gain any points due to the adjustments.  This time I wacked the underfloor heating on from 1-4pm to boost the adjustment and made 12,000 points (£15) for the 5-7pm session.  Clearly it is much more important to use loads of power in the preceding 3 hour slot rather than actually save any power in the saving session.

13152 points for me. I cooked, ran dishwasher etc before and then turned everything off and went out for two hours.

35,816 OctoPoints for the 12 December saving session here. Like I said, the algorithm is broken.
  • 45608 points for me worth £57.01..  I almost maxed out what I can consume 13:00 to 16:00. Next time I will max it to hopefully earn £70...  Awesome scheme, ill soon be effectively be in credit.

I was 4 octopoints out in my calculation this time, which suggests Octopus calculate octopoints per 30 minute period rather than on the total, and always round up.

My calculation total: £35.41p (28324 octopoints)
    Octopus total: 28328
I was two points out this time. Still not sure what happened in the first two sessions. I've been 1, 7 and 2 points out for the last three sessions but my calculation is a lot more out than that in the first two.
Yeh, I think it's safe to say Octopus' calculation wasn't right for the first two...

  • History so far, each session I try a bit harder

This is a "trial" and I imagine Octopus and the industry will review all the data and amend the algorithms for the future.  But we may as well enjoy this while it lasts!

I'm a low user, I did what I could between 1-4pm on the 12th... couple of loads of washing, dishwasher, immersion on for an hour (never used that before - it works!).  Not much else I could do.  Flicked everything off at the consumer unit for the 2 hour saving session and I've earned £9.18.  That equates to about 18 days electricity use on my current rates (excluding standing charge).  I'm happy with it of course, but it won't last!

When do octopus convert your points to pounds and is the price fixed?
  • I'm starting to think I should just run my electric shower for the full three hours. Such an appalling waste of energy though.
