They have clearly fallen foul of the law of unintended consequences, and in my opinion they will have to change the calculation. Then their problem is as soon as they do then they invalidate all the testing that has happened up to that point. Cant imagine so many people will bother taking part for 67p

I wonder if there is any potential for the spike during the IDA calculation period to cause significant issues?

While it was just a handful of people who figured out the loophole it might have gone under the radar but, as it becomes common knowledge, the thought of millions of people suddenly maxing out their consumption is a bit worrying.
There was a noticeable underestimate of the national grid demand between 1 and 4 at the last session, something like 500MW from the graphs I've seen.  Well within the capability of the system though, and still lower than the 6pm peak.

I'd be more worried about people popping their own incoming fuses.

How many kWhs can be used with a 60A fuse before it blows?

If you're talking about a 3 hour IDA window, you'd probably get away with 80A through a 60A fuse (assuming the curves haven't changed).

Depending on your supply voltage, that would be something like 19kW continuous power.  Or for the three hour window in total, somewhere around 55kWh.

Although if you try and do that, and your fuse blows, it isn't my fault.
  • I haven't read every post in this thread, but have got the impression that at least two of the posters are managing to calculate their savings and agree with Octopus's calculation (possibly only with the more recent sessions).

My calculations are still coming up with figures that don't quite agree (3% difference on the latest session) and am puzzled.  I'm wondering whether there is something different about my situation.

For example, do either/any of the people who can match Octopus's calculations have solar and hence some export?
