If 20,000 Octopus users can save equivalent of turning off an "entire gas power station" in one hour, presumably big guns like BG will save a shed-load more and avoid us facing those blackout levels? Stocked up on tea candles for next sessions, so no net savings, self.
Have opted in for tomorrow as well0 -

Using the slow cooker and turning it off at bang on 5 got us @ £1.32 reward. Tomorrow will be easier as we are on child minding duty at our son’s house.0

I find this Octopus FAQ statement a little odd.
"Why can't I see what my 'normal' energy usage is before the Session You won't be able to see your normal energy usage calculation before the Session because we calculate it, in part, based on data from the day of the Session.
We need data from right up until the Session begins in order to accurately apply an ‘In Day Adjustment.’ This is part of National Grid's requirements for us all being involved in their balancing trial."
I understand the statement but its not "right up until" its until one hour before.. Or are they using usage right until the start of the event to decide the inday adjustment... Hmmmm it makes a difference and might explain why I received a lot more octopoints that I expected.

All I know is, if you use quite a bit of electricity in the 4 hours before the session starts you seem to get a fairly high reward (more back than you've spent in the 4 hours) but whether that last hour counts or not, I couldn't work it out. I found this out by accidently using a lot during the run up to the 1st Session.
Today my washer is set for a 13.25 start, dishwasher will go on around 15.00 and I will be filling the battery 14.00-16.00 for use later (and so I can use 0 during the Session) If I wasn't eating out tonight, I'd bung a casserole in the oven.
Normally I would be avoiding all the above, as Agile is at my max price of 33.03p during that time. As it's a dreary day with no solar, I may as well try and get free leccy another wayBarnsley, South Yorkshire

Saving Session = 17:30 - 18:30
3 Hour 'in day' window = 13:30 - 16:30
I've just cooked tonight's chicken in the oven as we can eat it cold later. Now I'm putting the dishwasher on, then at 17:30 I'll make sure all the house lights are off.0 -

I've had the dishwasher, immersion heater and tumble dryer on and will cook before half 4. I'm also about to plug the car in for a quick boost.
It is all stuff I would have done anyway, but some I would have done cheaply overnight, so I'm not sure it has quite the effect they were after.
I understand why they have the in-day adjustment, but think they might need to tweak it. Perhaps if they calculated it over the preceding 8 hours they would still get a meaningful adjustment, but purposeful generation of extra load in that period would cease to be financially worth it.2 -
Let's hope it works with all the appliances going 1.30-4.30. As Peter above said, we'd have done these things anyway but probably at different times.
It does seem a bit crazy to be filling my battery when Agile is 33.03p but if it earns a reward worth £2.25 per KWh saved, then it does make sense in a way.Barnsley, South Yorkshire
