As mentioned above, you can't measure accurately with a current clamp unless you also have a voltage waveform reference. Switch mode PSU's create harmonics that mean your clamp meter will see an artificially high reading. I can see the same effect on the Owl energy monitor at my daughter's house. It reads about 350W when she is in with TV on, actual reading is less than 100W.

I didn't use a current clamp for my measurements I split the live. So the smart meter could also be wrong?  I was using that as the backup to my claim?  It was the smart meter results that got me to start testing everything in the house.

What was referred to wasn't a smart meter. These do measure what you'll be billed for and your in-home display reflects what it measures.

Please note my point about the time delay from PS5 shutdown and checking for power usage above. I have a hunch you'll find this important if you bother to test this (using you IHD).

Yes, you split the live which means you only have a current measurement, and only in one direction. Your meter would be correct if the load was purely resistive, which it won't be.

It's the same effect, your meter is expecting current at 50Hz with the harmonics caused by the switch mode power supply it will be at a much higher frequency.

an easy way to check would be to use an actual energy monitor plug and leave it plugged in for a longer time (overnight) then work out the per hour use. but even without that whats more likely. that the measuring tool/method is wrong or that these two ps5's just happen to have the same fault (or that all ps5's do and its not yet been in the papers)?
Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

They categorically don't as per my own tests. Whether some PS5s do is something I can't disprove, but proving that all don't just takes my one example. Plus others have similarly posted evidence that theirs don't use 32 W after shutdown. I'm stressing this given the alarming and misleading thread title.

Can confirm that mine doesn't use 32W after switching off either.

Yet my in-home smart meter display shows during the day, when I can visually monitor it, that with the PS5 plugged in my home consumption never drops below145w (usually more like 200w as a minimum) but with it unplugged it has got down to 109w.  Of course the meter is up and down like a yo-yo due to fridge and freezer compressors that now have variable output compressors rather than on and off but it is a fact noted over many days of leaving the PS5 plugged in or unplugged while sitting is a quiet house with everyone out of the house and me just reading a book with the TV and all devices off or in standby.
After reading the above comments I am starting to doubt my smart meter accuracy, which is linked to the daily consumption stats I get from my energy supplier.
It is noted though that not all PS5’s are the same as there are different model numbers with different consumption figures although the differences are subtle.  My next door neighbour bought his on the same day.
