Or, based on the wealth of evidence that it does confirm, it suggests that the problem might not be with PS5s, but with one person's usage.smjxm09 said:sully1311 said:
Have you read this page?smjxm09 said:So why are PS5's drawing so much power when in standby when the claim is 0.3W? Some sort of firmware upgrade has left parts of the PS5 permanently switch on when it appears to be off?

It may answer your question. It suggests the PS5 no longer conforms. As for standby, there is rest and there is standby. Nothing in the manual about extra power consumption when in standby. I have also unplugged everything from the PS5 apart from the power cord. Still drawing 140mA. We have to remember that my next door neighbours is doing the same.0 -
@MuckChucker Oh you are 100% correct, the Xbox does indeed say "Quick Resume"!

it's quite frankly an excellent feature but doesn't work 100% - especially now my XSX gets a full power down every night I notice it work less and less. Still I don't find the machine boots slow from cold.CanNeverThinkOfAUsername said:@MuckChucker Oh you are 100% correct, the Xbox does indeed say "Quick Resume"!1 -

this says 140 milliamperes is 0.14 watts? (but my little bear brain is not good at maths)smjxm09 said:Reed_Richards said:You mean they draw 32.2 W or 32.2 Wh per hour or 0.7728 kWh per day. The calculations of running cost look about right if your measurements were correct, it's just your units that are wrong. It was drawing 140 milliamperes.Calculation. 140 milliamperes / 1000 x 230 = 32.2W confirmed by using an on-line calculator772.8 watts per day or 282Kw per year.282Kw per year at 34.05p per Kw = £96 per year

It's giving you Watts per Volt, you still need to multiply it by the voltage - officially 230V in the UK, although it can vary between 220V-240V.
3.6 kW PV in the Midlands - 9x Sharp 400W black panels - 6x facing SE and 3x facing SW, Solaredge Optimisers and Inverter. 400W Derril Water (one day). Octopus Flux1 -

This is NOT normal. I usually turn my PS5 fully off rather than using rest mode and I can be gaming after about a minute or two depending on the game.CanNeverThinkOfAUsername said:This might be off topic. But when i turn my PS5 on it takes a good 4-5mins before i can play a game. But if i turn on my Xbox X it takes around 30 seconds. I have been a PS gamer all my life so i was shocked when i got the Xbox in the summer just how fast it is tbh!
The only time I leave my PS5 in rest mode is if theres a download I want to complete or I want to charge a controller. I got into the habit of doing this as there were issues with using rest mode early on. I see no real downside of continuing to do so to play safe, and it also save a small amount of electricity.1 -
Regarding our and my next door neighbours PS5 drawing 32.2W in standby. When it is in standby it is meant to be off. It is not in rest mode where events can happen in the background, it is in standby. As no one has come up with a feasible reason why it would draw more than 1 watt when Sony quote 0.3W I have come to the conclusion there is a bug affecting PS5’s that people are unaware of, as clearly it is not fully switching off even when fully disconnected apart from the power cord. Also it is not connected to the Wi-Fi as it uses an Ethernet connection which I also disconnected.0

There is no 'standby' mode on a PS5. It is on, in rest mode, or shutdown (off).smjxm09 said:Regarding our and my next door neighbours PS5 drawing 32.2W in standby. someone earlier gave you a specific link to the reason and how to fix it. if you go into macdonalds and order a 99p burger with extra bacon and cheese then you can't expect it to be 99p. in your settings there are options selected that are using extra power while in rest mode. turn them off and the system uses the 0.3w you are wanting to see.smjxm09 said:Regarding our and my next door neighbours PS5 drawing 32.2W in standby. It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

I'll just add that I know that when my own PS5 is shut down it definitely doesn't use 32 W.1

@smjxm09 I wonder if it's worth just checking you're not putting your PS5 in rest mode without realising it. When in your 'standby' is there an orange light around the edge of your console, or no light at all?0
