Is there a remit by date on the bill? Sometimes it will be 30 days. Or possibly they could do a payment plan? It might be worth asking if you could pay half now and half at the end of the month.

Hi Winter - no remit that I can see. I will ring them and ask about payment options.

Someone else has also put an offer in on the lovely bungalow, and the people that viewed it today also expressed an interest. I don't know what to do at this point. The knot in my stomach keeps growing. I don't want to prolong the sale of my house, so we are trying to think of where we could stay in the interim period. I would have suggested the van, but as it doesn't drive currently that is a moot point. We will have to just get a storage unit and pare down our belongings as much as possible, and then find an option that won't cost all the money we've made.

Suggestions are welcomed. Air bnb by me is very expensive for a month long stay (about £3500).

I moved possessions into storage then spent three months in a static caravan at a  fishery. It was cheaper than anything else that would allow dogs ...but it was off season.

I was going to say the same, call them, thank them and ask if you can pay over two months. They'd much rather that than having to come chasing you.

Thanks - this is the problem  - we have the dog to consider, which limits our options, even if by that point its only one dog and not two :(

We are about to hit peak season. *sigh*

I'd rather be temporarily homeless with some money though, than potentially have to restart the process of selling my house again.

Fed up today of people on FB marketplace trying to scam me. I'm selling my furniture because I don't have a choice, not because I want to pay a random UPS man who is going to come and collect my item for you because you are busy at work. I'm rolling my eyes so hard I might give myself an migraine.

Everything is catching up with me.

Have you tried searching on rightmove and expanding your search a little? I know it’s a worry that you might not get the house you love, but you might fall in love with another. I love looking at houses and saw one in Llanelli with beautiful sea views and 4 bedrooms for 180k. I realise that’s more than the the pretty one, but there are other options that might mean you don’t have to be homeless. It’s a worry that temporary storage and accommodation could quickly eat into your savings. What’s meant to be for you will come along, don’t give up hope.

Offer them another £5k then. In the scheme of things it's not that much considering your other options. My best friend went £8k above the asking price for where he is now. Also emphasise that you are a cash buyer and therefore not dependent on mortgage offers etc.
  • Decided to start today with tackling the cabin, after the emergency evacuation of my attic. Three massive boxes for binning, and two large piles of stuff to try and sell. Plus three more storage bags of clothes for Vinted. And I found £50 in a card from our wedding. I also found a £25 restaurant voucher, but it has expired. Once again, my lack of organisational skills is costing me. On the plus side, using the £50 I found, I can get the bus to town after I finish work, pick up some basic food bits, and get the bus back again.

And in the interim period I just sold my garden furniture to the local gypsies for £150. So £200 better than I started with today.

  • I also totally forgot we have RAC cover. So I've just reported the van as a breakdown, and they will send someone over to diagnose it, without me having to get it anywhere.

@foxandflowers - You make a good point there about lack of organisation costing you money, I have always been quite an organised person on the whole, plus I worked in a profession where it was a key requirement, but I have to say that since the LBM struck (a good while ago now) & I began budgeting, it surprised me just how much money went unspent simply through being much better organised at home. I managed a decent sized budget as part of my professional role & kept it accurate to the nearest penny, but I definitely didn't apply that good practice to our finances at home! It soon became really obvious how many of our regular overspends were due to not taking up good offers on time or bothering to shop around & researching best prices, too much take-away food & constant top-up shops because there was no meal planning, too much money spent on presents because not enough time & thought had gone in at the planning stages & many other examples. The little room I describe in my MSE diary as 'Foxgloves HQ' is my home office from where I run the household & I bet every hour I spend in there ends up saving us money one way or another.
Best wishes for the house buying/selling,
    F x
