UNPAID CARER
Options
I am an unpaid carer. My husband can't speak at all since he had a stroke 7 years ago! I have AMD and am slowly losing my eyesight. Surely, I am entitled to something! I have applied for every allowance, known to man - the answer is always the same - NO. Apparently, all governments save £119 billion, through not paying carers

Does your husband not get PIP or AA? You would then get carers allowance.
Have you applied for Universal Credit?

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

What is your household income at the moment and do you claim any non-carer related benefits? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
You should be able to claim Carers Allowance also you and your husband should be eligible for PIP?

Hi, so sorry to hear of your situation. Have you contacted Citizens Advice at all to see if anyone there will go through the benefits you may be entitled to and help you to access them?
Here's their link - https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/about-us/contact-us/contact-us/contact-us/
As your own health is now failing, you could visit your GP - or ask for a home visit because of your AMD. A GP can put you in contact with your local Social Services department so they can assess you and your husband and advise what you can claim for.
If you have had to visit a hospital because of your eyesight then you can ask the consultant there for a referral to social services for help with your home situation. You also need help with applying for benefits and social services should be able to give you that help if Citizens Advice can't.
I do hope you manage to get sorted out, the very least you need is someone coming in to help with caring for your husband. But do contact your GP, that's what they're there for. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. There are a couple of websites you can use to check if you are likely to be eligible for any benefits.
