I have meet Lee Child - he was the guest speaker a couple of years ago at the Mystery Author's Luncheon we have every year. He came back the next year as our moderator for the luncheon. He was very funny and a great speaker. His books are very popular here too.4

Ooh how exciting & interesting @weenancyinAmerica. I imagine he would be a great speaker. The Jack Reacher novels seem to be massive here. Although in the books he is described as a big guy, but Tom Cruise played him in the film.... lolMaking the debt go down and savings go up

One of the most important benefits to being on our Friends Library board is that we pay for a table of ten seats each year for the Mystery Author's Luncheon our local Library Foundation (the rich people in town) have every year. And ten of us get to go free as a result. They have three different mystery writers come to talk about how they got started writing and a fourth to moderate the panel discussion. We always get our check in first thing (they were still discussing the possible authors last year when we got the check to them there at the planning meeting) so we get the table right in front of the podium. Get to talk to the authors in advance too. Also we get to help pay for talks by different authors at the library and get introduced since we are the ones paying for the program. I used to work for several authors as well including Alex Haley who wrote Roots (on Roots II and Queen).3

Just catching up with the news about your big mortgage OP - I am absolutely delighted for you, you've worked so hard to absolutely turn things around with your finances, it's great that you are so close to that massive goal now!
That made me laugh about Tom Cruise playing Reacher too - like, HOW?!! Did he stand on a box throughout?!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Afternoon lovely readers. Turned a bit nippy today, but at least the sun was shining earlier to dry the washing about 80%, just finishing it off on the airer in front of the radiator. I was out this morning, and then managed without the heating on until about 3.45pm, when my feet and nose really started to get too cold. So just turned it on for an hour or so to take the chill off. Will be warmer in the kitchen later when I cook dinner.
So what's been happening the last couple of days. Well normal end of month mortgage payment DD went out and they added on the interest and I made another OP, so we are now down to £800. This will be cleared before the end of the month, and hopefully before Christmas. Just working it all out and waiting till my pension day next week and DH's pay day. I was a bit confused with the interest they added on, and might ask them to explain it when I ring to pay off the balance. Last month we still had a balance of over £12K and the interest was £76. This month the balance was just £894, and they added £47. I thought it would be a lot less than that, so not sure how it is worked out exactly. I know we can pay off as much OP as we like, due to the variable rate we have, but just don't understand why this month's interest was that much. Anyway, just £800 (approx, plus any more interest they add before we pay it), to go!
Studies been a bit slow yesterday and today, so hoping that picks up a bit. Got approx £13 waiting to approve on P/fc, so that will be a good start to the month. November ended on £87.30 with P/fc and Op*n**m, so very pleased with that.
Went to get my hair cut today, she works from home and only charges £20, so I more than happy with that, and she is the best hairdresser I have had. Changed to her just over a year ago when my previous lady went on maternity leave, then decided she was much better so kept going to her. Then nipped to Mr M as I had a £5 voucher. Got some yellow stickered bagels and a massive bag of apples reduced to 51p, also a bag of their nice mixed bakery bread rolls, reduced to 75p. So tomorrow the apples will end up as a crumble or apple cake I think.
This afternoon was just catching up on some cleaning and exercise class.
Yesterday I saw some lovely baking tins and a huge bag of wool in the CS. Was going to get them and then decided I didn't really need them, just wanted them. The tins were the mould shaped ones, in copper. Not something I have, but something I keep saying I will get. The wool will come in very handy for the new throw blanket I am knitting and also for the crochet I am intending to teach myself.....or re-teach, as I used to know how to do it about 50 years ago, and now can't remember. Now I regret not getting them, so might pop down first thing and see if they are still there. Its only in the village, so easily walkable. What I did get in there though, was another book for DH for Christmas for £1 and a Gruffalo board game for DGS4, for just £1.50. I'm so glad that DD doesn't mind me shopping 2nd hand, It gets expensive when she has 4 kids.
Off to shut the curtains now and maybe half hour with my book before I need to start dinner. Have a good evening all.

How fabulous for you to start 2025 mortgage free.
It really is a lovely feeling to finally be free of a mortgage after umpteen years of monthly payments, re-mortgages,interest rate fluctuations etc etc.
fascinating that the Latin root words are mort (death) and gage (pledge). 🥴1
