Wednesday morning my wife who is an existing Santander current account holder applied. Received an E mail saying all would be setup in three days. As of today nothing.

I am an existing customer with regularly used 123 account,  applied through on line banking on Tuesday  and almost immediately  received the email as below - nothing since.

In view of their undertaking, I shall be sending a secure message of complaint on Monday if nothing heard.

To reassure you that this email is from Santander, we've included your online application reference number in the title of this email. This is the number that we asked you to note down at the end of your online application.

Please be assured that your personal information has been received safely and it is currently being processed.

We will contact you within 3 working days with further details on your application.

    Thank you for choosing Santander.

I would suggest and this is only my personal opinion, that if you’re missus has her account sort code and account number then the account is open and no ID required - I can’t see them opening an account if they wanted to confirm ID first?

You could always send a £1 payment to her account and see if it goes through?

Could try that but we wouldn't be able to see whether it was credited to the account, as without the login details there's no way to look. So all it would show is that the transfer hasn't been bounced, or not bounced yet.
I'm hoping that the login information letters will arrive in a few days so we can be sure.
But I definitely won't transfer more that a trivial amount into an account that I can't access.

If you send £1 and it doesn’t bounce in the next 24-48 hours then that would indicate the accounts open?

I can’t login to mine either until I get all the paperwork through so I’ve only sent £1 to confirm everything is good to go.
does COP work when setting up payment to the santander account or is it unavailable as it is a savings account?
Yes although my HSBC account said that the details didn’t match (I put Santander) but payment still went through.

I appreciate not everyone is near a branch, but for those who are - I went into a branch the day after making a test payment, showed them my account number on the email on my phone, and the test payment was confirmed as having been received. No need to wait for login details.

I'm thinking along the same lines. Signed up to Santander but because I had a credit card with them 7 years ago and closed 6 years ago, the address didn't match on the sign up and I have to do a whole thing of sending in ID, proof of address and a merge form 🙄 talk about jumping through hoops. It will probably be a month before the account gets up and running, if at all..

I don't recall being asked how much I planned to deposit when I opened this account. Seems a bit strange if some are and some aren't?

No. I didn't get asked that question either.
    Are you existing/previous Santander customers?
I had a current account in the past but closed it a while ago but was still able to log into online banking and opened this new account once logged in. Account opened straight away.

I didn't get asked that question - yes, I am a long standing customer - and my account isn't yet open!
You’ve all not been asked then because you’re existing or have been a Santander customer.

Nope . I was asked that question (about initial deposit amount )  but already had a log in etrc from previous accounts with Santander.
  • Applied on Thursday. Waiting.
I'm actually happy that it's variable because BOE are now expected to increase rates by another 1.25% on 3rd November and at least another 1% in December.
