Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Loyd Grossman pasta sauces at £1.90 for the small jar, and Sharwoods curry sauces at £2.15 or 3 for 2 (£1.43 each) in Tesco today. I don't buy a lot of branded products but do buy these occasionally when they are on offer, recent target price being £1.25. I have a good stock but can't see me replacing them at those prices. I sometimes buy the Sharwoods ones or Pataks - but only when they're on promotion!
Far too expensive otherwise. I never buy any of the pasta sauce ones as I prefer to make my own.
I also like Blue Dragon stir fry sauce sachets (120g) but, again, only when on offer. Currently 90p at Sainsburys and £1.20 at the Co-op - 30p difference! I did get two at the Co-op on Monday and their offer was 2 for £1 so 50p each. Sainsbury's own brand (also 120g) are 60p and not a bad alternative.Be kind to others and to yourself too.2 -
Another thing that puts me off buying these types of jars is the "Veganisation" of food. Many SE Asian curries should have shrimp paste or fish sauce in them, but they are left out to cater for the vege-vegan clientele. This alters the taste and experience and it's not as good, nowhere near the real authentic thing.4

The price of sharwoods and Lloyd Grossman sauces is shocking. I did notice Aldi were out of stock with similar style sauces.
I wonder if there is a shortage or are people switching brands.3 -

Thanks Sunfl0w3r, I think we had one of their money-off leaflets through the door earlier. It's a half hour drive from me but if I can combine with a trip to Dunelm it could be worthwhile going over.

Many people need to learn to bulk out meals with potato. And seasonal veg - at the moment carrots, cabbage/brassicas all very cheap.
*Slinks off vowing to use up the bag of carrots that has been lurking in her fridge for a week*No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.5
