I've switched to Sainsbury's as they kept sending coupons for £8-£12 off a £60 shop. With the smart shopper deals too and nectar points and Aldi price match on a large amount of stuff we buy it's been refreshing to not fight the Aldi hoardes and stand in long queues (they have got really bad for this now). Sainsbury's I can scan and pack and be gone and plenty of space.

Aldi do have a better freezer selection and are cheaper on some cupboard staples but the prices which were largely static for years have risen virtually weekly.
Aldi's prices are going up daily at my local one. Heard many a conversation in the queues about the price is increases.

It's a source of comment in all the supermarkets I've been in (with the obvious exception of Waitrose, for equally obvious reasons). I cant think why you are singling Aldi out of negative comments in this respect. Morrisons, to name just one, is every bit as bad.

I suspect because Aldi has made price its sole marketing point, and therefore its potential Achilles heel.  I know people who shop there rate the quality and range of products, but for those of us who don't, the only thing they ever talk about in the media is their prices.  Even Lidl isn't so single-minded, always balancing quality and price in their communications.

I suspect that is only part of it. Aldi has always had its detractors - in the early days I was one of them. While prices there have risen, so have they everywhere else. Some people just don't like the shop, which is fair enough, but suggesting Aldi in some way unique for raising prices is not very convincing.

I've just booked my Christmas slot at Waitrose for 21st December - about 11 weeks away. The confirmation email has all the present day prices on it. It will be interesting and probably somewhat horrifying to see what the prices are on the 21st Dec!

It's not, but that is beside the point. It's no longer possible to sling things into my basket without thinking about the prices. Many of the quite basic items I buy have been a matter of pennies for well over 15 years, and are now creeping over the £2 mark. It made impulse buying affordable, and now it is not and my fridge reflects this too. I did a very small shop there yesterday for just a few bits and it came to £13. On the drive home I mentally added it all up, thinking there must be some mistake but there was not.

Morrisons - you can forget it, unless it comes as a Magic Bag.

Aren't they all basically like this now?
I find the quality, price and availability of goods in Tesco to be shocking.
Waitrose are still best of the lot but obviously at huge expense!
Lidl & Aldi seem to offer the best overall shopping experience for me these days.
The new stores are leagues ahead of the 'traditional' players, it's no wonder they're picking up so much market share.
I've binned off Lidl and gone back to Tesco, sick of the empty shelves in Lidl, the straw that broke the camel's back was no eggs (at all, nada) at 08:05 on a Saturday morning. They have been bad all year now so started back at Tesco's the price difference isn't too bad, they have more choice, no gaps on the shelves and longer opening hours.

I'm afraid the point you're making escapes me. Yes, of course prices are rising and yes, of course it is worrying. However, any suggestion that Aldi is somehow exceptional in the rate its prices are increasing ,or that it is no longer one of the cheapest (if not the cheapest) supermarkets to buy from seems quite wide of the mark.

Did a shop in Aldi yesterday, bread cost the same as M&S! (OK it was 69p and 70p). Most prices had crept up again since the last shop there two weeks ago.

What I find interesting is the price of wine in Aldi seems static, you can still get plenty of bottles under £4. It's almost cheaper than beer now which had crept up a bit.

However the shelves were quite empty especially for fresh produce and this seems to becoming an issue unless you shop there on a Thursday when it seems they fully stock it.
