£2.65 for 6 medium eggs in the co op!
Blimey. Were they laid by a golden eagle?

Still £1 for 6 at Waitrose, though no stock last time I was in.

I'm tending to buy large eggs in boxes of 10 at Iceland (with 10% discount on a Tuesday).

    I think I pay £1.50ish for 10

I agree about Morrisons. Probably did the bulk of my shopping there pre-pandemic but haven't been back much since. They do some nice French set yogurts and crusty bread rolls but not worth making a special journey for that.
  • Aldi now sell 6 x medium egga dor about 1.35iah. they are tiny! My local market sells 6 x huge eggs for 99p!

Aldi.prices have  rocketed in recent months. I no longer consider them a cheap supermarket. I now shop at Sainsbury's, who price match Aldi, have cheaper reduced items (Aldi is only 30% max), hand out free plastic bags, more choice, wider aisles, toilets, and generally a much less crowded and stressful shop to than Aldi. I came out with a tonne of reduced items with some price matched stuff the other day and spent way less than Aldi. Better quality veg and meat too!
Ps. Agree about Morrisons prices, but also the Co op is becoming more.exoensive than Waitrose!
This bears out the complaint that 'shopping basket' inflation figures are pretty meaningless because they don't take account of the fact that not everybody buys the same things. In my case, Sainsbury's would rank as second only to Waitrose in terms of high prices but without the breadth of luxury products and higher quality of some of Waitrose's products. I also disagree about Sainsbury's meat, which I find very poor. To cite one example, Aldi's best steaks seem, to me, to be even better than those from Waitrose.

Judging from my shopping basket, Sainsbury's would be the last of the majors I would use instead of Aldi which is, for me, still the cheapest supermarket choice.

It just goes to show how different we all are, I suppose.
  • When we moved we no longer had a Waitrose or Sainsburys within 100 miles so started to shop in Morrisons. There were some thing I never really liked, their meat always seemed poor. But it has got worse over the last year and now it's my last choice after Lidl and Aldi.
  • I tried to pick up a few things in morrisons a month or so ago, everything I picked up I sharply put back down, I couldn't quite believe some of the rip off prices.

Exactly. I was a hardened Aldi shopper for years but saw there prices increase and got tired of lack of variety and so decided to venture elsewhere and was.pleasently surprised. I cam do a good fruggle shop in Sainsbury's with little to no cost difference to Aldi.

My local aldi does 75% off regularly most days
  • I'm going to experiment with trying Sainsbury's now after reading a couple of people commenting here (I always used to like Sainsbury's but I've been assuming they're expensive nowadays after being seduced by my local Aldi and Lidl) one thing that has always put me off Sainsbury's,and this is something I actually read about here on MSE ,they're very bad for doing that thing where they mark up something as expensive for a little while and then do a manipulatively thing where they mark it up with the original price with a very generous discount on that price so that you think you are getting a super bargain ,but really it's a bit of a scam ,while it might be legal for them to do it I feel it shows bad morals ,and I have noticed that Sainsbury's does do it a lot ,and nearly everything non-food you look at on their shelves is priced like this so that you think it's been marked down

My local used to so 50% as standard on sell by date products but now it's only 30%, which is rubbish for food with a few hours freshness left. I can grab much better yellow stocker bargains at local Sainsbury's.
BTW. Took a trip to Morrison's the other day and they have hiked up pretty much everything massively. I walked out without buying a single thing!
