I'm going to experiment with trying Sainsbury's now after reading a couple of people commenting here (I always used to like Sainsbury's but I've been assuming they're expensive nowadays after being seduced by my local Aldi and Lidl) one thing that has always put me off Sainsbury's,and this is something I actually read about here on MSE ,they're very bad for doing that thing where they mark up something as expensive for a little while and then do a manipulatively thing where they mark it up with the original price with a very generous discount on that price so that you think you are getting a super bargain ,but really it's a bit of a scam ,while it might be legal for them to do it I feel it shows bad morals ,and I have noticed that Sainsbury's does do it a lot ,and nearly everything non-food you look at on their shelves is priced like this so that you think it's been marked down
I wouldn't get your hopes up too high. There are a couple of things I can only get in Sainsbury's so I visited a branch a few weeks ago. I am puzzled that anyone thinks they can match Aldi prices on all but the few products they have deliberately pitched against Aldi for marketing purposes. For the products I buy, they remain very expensive.
Sainsbury's offers more choice from brand producers who often have really good promotions on which gives Aldi a run for their money. For me, I just got so bored of Aldi and their same old stock and the recent daily price hikes make me look elsewhere. I can still do the same shop in Sainsbury's for the same price and have more choice and the option of really good promotions. Trust me, i was an Aldi die-hard for years. It's just not the cheapest any more and th3 quality is iffy on their meats and fruits.

I'm afraid we are just going to have to disagree. I find Sainsbury's meat generally poor, have no problem with Aldi's fruit and veg, am not bored with Aldi's monoculture and when I do want something Aldi doesn't sell, I top-up elsewhere.

What I do not find is that Sainsbury's  is cheaper or equal in price, shop for shop - not for the things I buy. For once, I agree with Which? in fact.
  • Aldi.prices have  rocketed in recent months. I no longer consider them a cheap supermarket. I now shop at Sainsbury's, who price match Aldi, have cheaper reduced items (Aldi is only 30% max), hand out free plastic bags, more choice, wider aisles, toilets, and generally a much less crowded and stressful shop to than Aldi. I came out with a tonne of reduced items with some price matched stuff the other day and spent way less than Aldi. Better quality veg and meat too!
Ps. Agree about Morrisons prices, but also the Co op is becoming more.exoensive than Waitrose!
My local aldi does 75% off regularly most days
My local used to so 50% as standard on sell by date products but now it's only 30%, which is rubbish for food with a few hours freshness left. I can grab much better yellow stocker bargains at local Sainsbury's.
BTW. Took a trip to Morrison's the other day and they have hiked up pretty much everything massively. I walked out without buying a single thing!
I am told that Morrisons reduces things to rock bottom just before the store closes. The days of YS bargains during the daytime (which used to be the case) are over as the YS prices are still more than I would wish to pay.

Popped into a large Sainsburys on my way home from work late on Friday - 8pm is usually a good time but not on this occasion, nothing to be had in the f&v and bakery and little in the chiller cabinet. I consoled myself by stocking up on vino which is again on a 25% promotion for 6 bottles or more.
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.

We have started using Tesco home delivery instead of fighting the masses in Aldi on a Saturday morning.

But ive got from being able to get 91 items on the monthly shop for the same price I can now get 78 (same items or there abouts). And have just have notification that tonight's delivery won't have any mince or chicken on it as it's out of stock..... Which I highly doubt and that means I will still have an empty freezer drawer.

Previously Tried to top up in Morrisons but found they were expensive and shelves were often empty.

We top up in Sainsbury's and even with Aldi price match we find it's expensive for what we get. But it's convenient and we spend far too much in there..

If I had the time I'd go back to Aldi (but not their fruit/veg that was always too close to being off for us)
  • Went into Aldi today and yet again they've significantly bumped up prices. Ready to eat mackral was 1.79 last week and now is 1.99!  That's the same price Sainsbury's sell it for!
  • The coop is ridiculous now, although they do have the odd bargain.  I saw Tyrell's crisps for £2.60 a bag yesterday, and the 'nice' pizzas were nearly £7 each!

I went in for a few  bits for dinner as I get 10% off, and left with a couple of bottles of San Pellegrino water which was only £1 per litre bottle.  I went to Heron to buy a few things but their prices have also rocketed.

Not sure it is the Sainsbury's price.   They are showing a 140g pack for £1.65 (so, £2.35 for the same weight as Aldi sell).  The peppered variety is sold by weight, so 200g would be £2.50.

And this is the problem with comparing prices at the moment - just when you think you've made a saving on a comparison, the "other" retailer increases their prices.

Increases their prices or shrinks the size.

Himself likes those spicy NikNaks crisps.  Were £1 a multi pack of 6 for a long time, then they went up to £1.20/£1.30.  So when I saw some at 99p I bought a few. Got them home and realised there's only 5 bags in em! Grrr.
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.

I've switched to Sainsbury's as they kept sending coupons for £8-£12 off a £60 shop. With the smart shopper deals too and nectar points and Aldi price match on a large amount of stuff we buy it's been refreshing to not fight the Aldi hoardes and stand in long queues (they have got really bad for this now). Sainsbury's I can scan and pack and be gone and plenty of space.

Aldi do have a better freezer selection and are cheaper on some cupboard staples but the prices which were largely static for years have risen virtually weekly.
