  • I think they are just running behind. I got a reply on wed from an email sent well over two weeks earlier. And I'm pretty certain they chose not to publish any rates till they saw who the new pm was. The window of ten days till we start to respond to the change in cap nicely ended around the pm starting. I guess now they are just working all hours trying to figure out what to tell us. I'm hoping to here soon as what has been missing all year is certainty and it would be nice to have someone tell me if what I have guessed my new d debit will be is close to the mark

  • How much notice do people on the SVT need to be given before their tariff changes, if they want this live by Oct 1st time must be tight now.

Unspecified.  Used to be strict in some circumstances but not really any more.

Given that all suppliers’ SVT will be at the cap, unless something extremely unusual happens, then you already know what the SVT for Octopus will be.

Well nothing from them this morning again - guess this all takes some calculating - Greg Jackson and the state of the art tech system may need an overhaul.

My Mum in Law is with different company and I pay bills online for her hence getting emails from her provider.  One came on Wednesday with video link from CEO, nice touch to express companies condolences for late Queen and went on to explain company outline on billing dates.  While a nice touch from them, it just shows how some in sections society like the elderly can be isolated from not being online etc.

I do, but this is the problem majority of people out there either don't want to or just cannot get to grips with the Gov't announcement, lost count the number of people I have spoken to who genuinely believe the £2500 is a cap and you can use as much energy as you like and pay no more than £2500.

There are some well educated people in this mix, one guy was kicking off how much it benefits the rich as his own bills are never more than £1000 per year so he said he wil never hit the cap.

Octopus and others need to get the new rates out there and estimates of the annual costs from Oct so people can see its not a £2500 cap.

Some are going to be in for a shock when they see estimates well above £2500,

Stand by for endless posts along the lines of " BG have set my DD at £500pm - that's nearly two and a half times the cap - what are they doing?"

Octopus' silence continues to be deafening... :(
  • The "Change my tariff" link has disappeared from my account page so perhaps they are preparing to release the new tariffs?

This suggests some sort of cap will apply to Agile and tracker.

There are a number of different smart tariffs, some that currently have caps that sit below the Gov't cap and others well above so it's a rather broad statement and will not apply to all. I am struggling with tracker and Agile as those caps are voluntary, tracker was always a variable tariff that tracks the market rate daily, you sign up to those tariffs knowing this, one day it can be high next it can be low. Octopus due to market volitility introduced caps on the tariffs to prevent price shocks for customers.

These caps have risen with each new version released, those customers have the option to switch at no cost to the Octopus variable tariff and pay the Gov't agreed rates, I am not sure why there would be support on Tracker, this tariff like today has a Gas rate below the new Gov't cap, so supporting tracker gives the customer a win win, never paying more than the SVT but benefiting on days like today when the rate falls below it.

It would need to be another octopus voluntary cap as unlikely it would fit within the Gov't criteria of being an SVT or fixed tariff.
