The initial Octopus email schedule did include a get out of jail free clause.
Unfortunately the government did intervene after a protracted amount of their usual dither and delay. I wouldn't be surprised if the energy suppliers are still waiting for the govenment to dot the i's and cross the t's before they can proceed to contact customers.   :D

Unless the government intervenes, here's the expected events for the coming weeks:

    • Aug 26th: Ofgem announces cap level
    • Sep 6th: New Prime Minister takes office
    • Sep 13th: Octopus starts sending personalised messages with your tariff and estimated details (this will take several days)
    • Sep 17th: Octopus starts updating direct debit (these will be delivered to those affected over time, based on account status and usually you can adjust them if you think we are wrong)
    • September 30th - October 6th: You can send us a meter reading at any time — if you'd like to submit one for the changing prices you can do that right up until October 6th.  You can do it online in seconds.
    • October 1st: New price cap comes into effect
Where did you get that from?

I'm guessing it went out some time ago to Flexible (SVT) customers? I didn't get it, anyway.
Still no communication from Octopus... :(

In an email I received from Octopus dated 19th August.

  • I'd assume Tracker and Agile customers might be last to be contacted.  Customers on Flexible Octopus and fixed rates, it'll be simple what will happen, but it's probably a bit more complicated for us (the fact we haven't heard makes me think they are doing something - otherwise they'd have been able to contact us to say 'nothing changes').  So if they start contacting customers in general at the end of this week, I'd not expect to hear until next week.

I am getting antsy to know where we stand with Tracker though!

Won't the tracker rate just be set at the cap though?

If they are going to do anything with Tracker, then, presumably, they will 'simply' reduce the respective UR caps by applying the EPG reduction, which doesn't 'seem' particularly complicated (emphasis on 'seem')?

The likely complication is the Government are providing a subsidy for the SVT, and for fixed tariffs over the cap, Tracker and Agile do not fall into either of those groups, so there may be a bit of debate going on about the subsidy, if any for tariffs that don't fit into the already declared groups that are receiving support... .

  • I'm guessing Octopus' end of week may be Sunday 11:59pm lol

That's my thoughts, where does tracker fit. Its a variable tariff for a fixed period with voluntary caps by Octopus themselves. How do they get Gov't subsidy on that kind of tariff. Surely the Gov't response would be leave as is or move all to the SVT, there are no exit fee's with Octopus anyhow, but leaving those on Tracker with a Gov't supported cap around 10p for Gas could mean some days paying less than the cap but never exceeding it.

So maybe the cap on these tariffs will be higher than the SVT to take into account the potential to fall below on certain days.

"On Eco 7, Eco 10 or other non standard tariff? I'm being told that firms should reduce tariffs so the reduction works on the weighted average of the combined rates. (Im guessing its the same 4p/kWh and 17p/kWh as the fix reduction). Its up to firms how they implement"

I'm with Octopus and since yesterday they have adjusted my DD in the Balance forecast section from £108.51 to £121.08

I have been paying £120 per month for the last 6 months and I am £470 in credit. Latest DD payment was taken yesterday for £120 so expect to get an email sometime soon confirming the figure of £121.08
