Variable DD is usually treated the same as fixed DD for these things.
    From Octopus' updated(?) FAQ:

Not sure what to make of the 'and instead paying on receipt of your bill' being linked to not having a DD??

That's probably just linked to the historic terminology - sending a cheque when you had received your paper bill.

That is 'standard credit' and is the more expensive way of doing it. No DD, just pay by cash/cheque etc. upon receipt of the bill.
You on the other-hand have a DD in place, it just isn't taken until the bill has been produced so it is the exact amount required.

Thanks @[Deleted User] & @MWT - was beginning to wonder if this was going to be another complication!
  • I just had 'The Email' from Octopus 😱  I'm on SVT with them.    They're keeping my DD payments the same. I currently pay £175 and am in credit.

Does anyone know if the estimated annual usage in £'s/kWh for gas and leccy is based on what customers used last winter?  I was on a cheap fixed deal, had credit and was quite frivolous with the gas central heating and tumble dryer.   They estimated about £3000 for the year in' The Email '.

    Thanks all

££? No, that would be very odd when the unit price changes.

kWh?  Of course, what would be a more obvious starting point for predicting annual usage than, well, your actual annual usage?

It's not the only thing that they take into account, but where else would they start?  They don't know if you were frivolous or not, whether you've just bought a jacuzzi, or whether you've decided to live in a tent in the garden.

No jacuzzi but I actually do have a tent!!   I know I was frivolous last winter so would use more kwh's in gas..

I had 'the email' but it was only about the gas which means nothing to me, want to know what happens to leccy fixed Octopus Go
  • No communication for me yet, but as my gas bill from Octopus a few weeks ago predicted an annual bill of £162 I'm not too worried.. I was out in the back garden today doing a few more splits for the log burner.

With an EV I'm on Go so hope I get some benefit, but count my lucky stars that I've a PV installation which keeps my cost down and a propensity for warm jumpers and low temperatures. I'm a pensioner but glad to be an active one; people like my mum really need high temperatures at home, and luckily she is in a well-insulated flat. It's horrible to contemplate those people who aren't.
