It isn't there now but then I have since signed up to a fixed tariff where the t&cs specify you are happy to have a smart meter installed.
Their reply at the time was "no appointments before November , please contact us later in the year"!0 -
I am also ex-Zog, but I have to say, other than a large message box when I log in to my account, I have not been hassled about a smart meter. Nothing changed when I signed up for a fixed tariff a few weeks ago. If there was an option saying I don't want to be contacted, I will have chosen it. I will also have avoided giving a phone number if possible. (I never wish to be contacted by phone about about anything, so leave it blank, or if they insist, put a fake number or a secondary mobile number that's always switched off unless I need to receive an SMS code for verification.)jak22 said:Its just a pair of meters and they just take a couple of hours to fit. No bother at all.

I've been getting regular emails and texts about the smart meter situation but again, we're a SOLR customer for gas only, and our current electric meter is non-mart. I'm reluctant to get the electric meter changed to smart until I'm back on a big 5 supplier (due to the risk of being SOLR'd to British Gas if my current one should go under) and so it goes on. I've just not engaged though - just ignored everything.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Ignite said:Hi,
We got moved to EDF for our gas when Zog folded. In the last 2 months, EDF have tried to make 4 unsolicited appointments to fit a smart gas meter. Each of these I've had to cancel twice as their "Reply NO" WhatsApp reply doesn't work. I've got "Don't contact me about a smart meter" selected on my account profile yet this doesn't seem to stop them.
I've now raised an official complaint which they tried to close with a return call 20 mins later. I wouldn't let them close it, and just as well as I've now received another email from them about arranging an appointment.
So, how do I stop this harassment? If anyone says why don't I let them fit one, I've not got a problem with Smart Meters. What I have a problem with is being bothered all of the time by EDF. I'm not going to take time off work for them to fit one at their convenience. If they hadn't started bothering me with this I might have sorted out an appointment.
The other issue is that we only have them for gas and not electricity, and there have been too many stories on this forum about EDF agents not getting their meter to connect to another companies hub. Why would I want to waste my time with this?
Any thoughts on how to get them to stop bothering me?
ThanksYou might be interested in this thread which I started some time ago. I've never been troubled since!

They wouldn't leave me alone until I wanted to go onto a time of use tariff and thus needed a meter fitted - since then I have had two failed appointments without any contact, just complete no shows - so based on this, the best way to shut them up is to book the installation and you will probably never hear from them again....I think....0

Technically not true. They will happily fit a smart gas meter, even if you have no smart electric meter. It just works as a 'dumb' meter until you get a smart electric meter. It is the route British Gas took 6 months (ish) ago.

Thanks. I was nt averse to smart meters I m a fan of them but absolutely no way was I going to take time off work and lose money .I knew only too well that meter fitters have a habit of not turning up at allI was a meter reader anyway for BG and worked most Saturdays and often late up to 8 pm on occasions on weekdays .
In my view if I can work for BG in antisocial hours , so can these meter fitters.
Eventually they made a Saturday morning appointment and fitted both meters in less than an hour .
Stick to your guns and only accept an appointment which suits you.0 -

The communications hub normally sits atop the Electricity meter as it needs an electrical supply to function. The ‘dumbness’ as far as your electricity meter is concerned was simply that the supplier was using your manual reads for billing.
