Hi All

Finally managed to purchased from SCREWFIX...though it was expensive 68p....hahahehehehehehahahah

how where do i go from here, how do i plug this thing...after putting the switch on i will take the ON side of the switch so that no one turns it off and messes with Alexa.....true  ?





thank you all again. hopefully after the switch is put on things will work.

The two brown wires that are currently together go in the common terminal. The other brown wire goes in the other.

Alykhalil, what you have there is a switch switch, and not a key switch. So you'll still have the problem of folk turning it off by instinct, and your super-dooper Alexi light not working.

Oookkkaaayy, I had just written out how to wire this switch so's it's permanently 'on', but realised the danger of doing that should anyone wish to replace the light or fitting and be too lazy to turn off the power at the CU. Ie, BLUDY DANGEROUS, as there would always be power going to it, even if folk flick that switch 'off'!

So, if you DO want to use that switch switch, then wire it as GDB says. Ie, as a switch.

And then live with folk turning it off by instinct, and Alexi ignoring you.

I told you which switch to get, but you ignored me. Get used to it - 'cos Alexi will be too...

Excellent thread. Most impressed by the tripping of the lighting. Have you considered just using a switch and ditching all the tech stuff so that the light can go on and off on demand - by pressing the 60p switch? I do wish a 2 way switch had been purchased rather than the 1 way just to increase the confusion. Or how about an intermediate switch?

When asked if you could fit a normal switch you said “A MILLION % I WOULD GET IT RIGHT”.  Now you’re asking how to fit a normal switch (albeit in an irresponsible and potentially dangerous manner) 🤷‍♂️

For your own safety stop messing about and get someone qualified in to do it for you!

If you really want to do it the cheapest way, regardless of all other factors, then

1. Take your switch back to SF for a refund.
2. Buy there a blanking plate instead.
   
3. Use the connector that you bought from amazon to connect all three brown wires together. Before doing this mark two wires connected together 'line' (each) and the single brown wire 'switched line'.
4. Screw the blanking plate to the box instead of the existing switch.

This blanking plate is 46p and will save you whole 22p(!).

Bare with me here,  when he has the wires out and has withdrawel he definately needs to sleeve the wires when he seperates them which should of guarenteed he won't get mixed up again.
